I'm looking for some help with a ticketing dilemma I have. I can't figure out how to ticket this itinerary on OW carriers in a cost effective way. I need to buy 3 tickets, so the cost is important, and I need the miles to qualify for GO next year.

The only cost effective way I've found to ticket this, is on 9W (Jet), where HKG-xBOM-LHR-BOM-HKG costs about HK$7500 including tax for a K-class 3 month validity ticket (I need 3 months). I get Asiamiles but not status miles, which I need, so this is a last resort for me.

Travel ex-HKG is in July, so peak season.

Does anyone have suggestions on how I could ticket this on OW carriers so I can get status miles? I don't mind to pay more, but I can't afford to pay double or triple which is what options I see elsewhere.

What is the cost if you to HKG-LHR-HKG and then HKG-BOM-HKG as separate tickets?

Usually a circle ticket will cost more than separate return flights, unless you find a oneworld circle fare that works for you.

If you are doing it 3 times, does it make sense to start your trip from BOM instead - fares might be cheaper?

You may want to consider the following:
HKG-BOM-HKG (on CX)
BOM-LHR-BOM (on BA)

BA fares should be quite competitive w/IT, 9W, etc having low fares.

Ah, just to be clear, I'm travelling with 2 others, so it's just one trip, not 3 RT.

sxc, can't do HKG-BOM-HKG & HKG-LHR-HKG as I'll be travelling with kids including a 10-14 day old newborn newborn (I forgot to mention +1 inf) and it's too much travel like that.

tiburon1K, thanks for the suggestion. Actually your suggestion might work. It will definitely be more expensive than 9W, but perhaps HKG-BOM-HKG on CX and BOM-LHR-BOM on BA might just work!

And you want to re-qualify for Gold, right? I don't think traveling on 9W will help with that since they are not Oneworld members. You'll earn Asia Miles but not Club miles.

Well that's the point, I want to avoid 9W for exactly this reason and fly on OW carriers if possible.

Premium Economy for BOM-LHR-BOM is a good option for Club miles earning.
Quick check by ba.com, it costs around 6000-7000HKD, which earns 110% Club miles. BA's discounted economy class earns only 50% or 0% Club miles.

Another option to consider is via BLR as BA sometimes offer great fares!

HKG-BLR-HKG (KA: if you get upgraded, business seat is ~similar to LH business: angled flat; KA arrives ~1.30 AM or so and 12-20 minutes to clear immigration and BA check-in start ~3 AM or so for a ~6 AM departure; new airport and clean)

BLR-LHR-BLR (BA)

BLR-BOM-BLR (IT, 9W, + many others; RT ~<$200)
