Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - award availabilty question - changing dates

Hi
I'm looking to go HKG-DPS in August.
So far award availability is looking like outbound econ priority at 35k on the date I want to travel. The return is business at 30k, but a day before I want to travel.
Now can I book the return and try and change the date later?
Thanks

I'm not sure what you're getting at. You're trying to redeem 65k miles for outbound Y, inbound J for something that costs 50k in J return?
As far as the award is concerned, you can change dates at any time prior to departure.

Basically yes.
I know its a lot of miles, but I have loads of spare miles, and buying a ticket to bali is freaking expensive, so the only way I seem to be able to do this is through miles.
I know its 50k in J, but there is no J availability on the way out.
So basically I can buy the rewards and keep on trying every day to change the flight dates.
Now, I know this is probably an unanswerable question, but what is the likelihood of flights opening up nearer the time?

The same situation happened to me two years ago. I ended up purchasing a CXHolidays package using my seat guarantee.
If I were you I would try getting waitlisted for a return T or U class award before resorting to using the aforementioned 65k award. Are you an MPO elite?
As this is a route that depends heavily on leisure traffic, the loads are quite high (and often overbooked) in the back of the plane. As such, I would think twice before booking J on this route. FWIW, I was op-upped both ways when I flew this route (in August) two years ago.

Thanks. No longer have status :(
Slight change in travel dates, meaning I can get the return date I want it (with business at 30k), but outbound not available.
My present thinking is I fly to Singapore, overnight there and then get a Lion Air flight to Bali. On way back I may just take up the reward.
Re CX holidays, I'm flying on my own and don't need accommodation, so don't know if that will help me.
