I have booked a trip LAX-ICN-CAN but would like to travel LAX-ICN-HKG instead, because the swine flu makes traveling to China proper too complicated. When I called Korean Air, the agent was willing to waive the $75 change fee but insisted that I pay the difference in airfare because I purchased the original ticket through a consolidator.

1) What options do I have to change from CAN to HKG?

2) Does KE allow standby changes on the date of the flight?

3) Can the agents in ICN process a change from ICN-CAN to ICN-HKG?

4) Does KE currently allow any waivers for the swine flu?

5) How can I get the change fee to be waived?

6) Does change fee even apply to CAN and HKG, which are considered coterminals?

CAN and HKG are completely different destinations with completely different fare structures. It is mainland China AND Hongkong (sorry, no offence, just how they divide fare structure.) I thought HKG is usually cheaper than CAN because more competition going on for US-HKG. At this time, there's very little swine flu related waiver going on for KE, to/from Mexico and maybe Osaka area in Japan this week. China is relatively safe zone from the flu. Since you're departing from US, you can get waived for change fee but not fare difference, as listed on koreanair.com

If you wish to do standby, you shouldn't check baggage for some flexibility. I'm not sure what your booking class is, but usually things should be confirmed before the flight, not in the middle of the flight.

2) standby change from CAN to HKG -> No
3) No
4) call Korean air
If KE allows you to cancel your flight with full refund by any chance, then call the consolidator to book a flight to HKG (I think this one has more chance than chaning your flight to HKG without additional charge)

Usually Standby is good if origin-destination city pair is same.
In US, some airline companies allow standby for co-terminals like IAD and DCA..
I do not think KE has a co-terminal policy like ICN & Gimpo, NRT & Haneda.

BTW what consolidator did you contact?

Do you stop over at ICN ?

Who says CAN and HKG are considered co-terminals? You? Unless the fare rule clearly remarks CAN and HKG as co-terminals, that is nothing more than a bulls***.
