I just read online that Enterprise is now doing one-way rentals out of participating neighborhood locations in Florida to the North. This promotion is only available for a few more days, requires 48 hours advance notice, and can only be booked on the telephone using rate code FLDRIVE. The rate is $10/day with free unlimited miles, something else that is not always the case with Enterprise. Corporate cousins National and Alamo have been doing this one-way repositioning offer for a while already.
I thought Enterprise generally does not do one-way rentals, due to the franchise nature of their business, except in certain situations within the same franchise group.
So, what's going on here? Why is Enterprise suddenly doing something unusual, and only for a limited time?

All Enterprise locations are corporately owned, they do not have franchises, however each group or region manages (buys, rents, sells) their own fleet so in the past they would not allow one way rentals. Starting in August, Enterprise and National/ Alamo will have a shared fleet. Vehicles will be able to be used at any 3 brands (this does NOT mean you can rent at a National location and return at an Enterprise location) however if there is demand for cars at a local Enterprise office they will be able to "borrow" cars from National and vice versa. As such demand is slow in FLA in the summer so they are moving cars out to where they need them most.
