Travel Technology - Question about using converter/adapter for US Dell laptop in India

I'm going to India this week and would like to take my laptop. I've looked at the back of my laptop AC Adapter and it says it is 90W and accepts an input of 100-240V, 1.5A, 50-60Hz.

I have a "1600W converter" lying around the house for use in India but I wasn't sure if this would be safe for use with my laptop. It seems my AC Adaptor already works fine in 240V and 60Hz so I was wondering if this converter would cause any issues or if I should just go out and buy one of those $5 plug adapters from Radio Shack.

Thanks.

You just need one of the $5 plug adapters - it will work perfectly well there. Definitely do not need a transformer to convert the voltage.

I used my Dell laptop charger just fine in India. You only need the inexpensive little converter to plug it into the wall.

Assuming, of course, that you're not going anywhere that gets frequent brownouts or voltage spikes. I've heard spikes of up to 400v are not uncommon.

Thanks for the replies. I've been told the area I'm going to doesn't have much power outage problems so hopefully I'll be good.
