I'd like to buy a phone for traveling outside the US (other than Japan and Korea), something about one step up from a disposable phone.

What do you think of the Motorola v195?

Also, can I run Google maps and other Google apps on this phone?

Is there a similarly priced phone that's better?

I love mine. I've had it well over a year now. It has great battery life, never had a problem making calls with it or anything in several countries. I got the t-mobile version and they unlocked it for me after a few weeks

I left my old phone on a plane, it was just easier to replace it and they had a great deal on it, $20 or something like that.

I'm actually considering picking up another one as a backup.

The only issue is it won't work with generic chargers, it needs to think it's a motorola charger.

I don't think you will easily find a quad band unlocked phone for as little money.

Will it run Google apps, including Google Maps?

The cheapest price I can find is $47 shipped from Newegg for a 'recertified' unit and $57 shipped from Amazon. Do you see anything better?

There's dozens of them on ebay for $20 to $25, some less

I've never tried to run apps on them, the internet connection with t-mobile is pretty horrible so other then checking the balance I never do anything else, sorry.

The ebay $20 ones are all used, so far as I can tell. You can get refurb for $40. New is more.

See if you can still get them at tmobile.com. These is a very nice basic "world" phone. I actually have 3 of these as backups and for when travelling international and do not want to use my more expensive phones. Got them up on tmobile for $30 each. Wife is using one of them now since her RAZR packed up.

T-Mobile only offers them with contracts. They recently offered on prepaid for $30 with $25 airtime, but not at the moment and reportedly not in the future.

What is the screen size for this phone? I can find resolution, but not size.
