July 4 weekend - Road Trip from Portland, OR
I am taking a road trip (June 30- July 5) with mother and aunt from Portland. I am looking for suggestions on activities...

1. wine
2. coast (Newport- Long Beach WA)
3. festivals

The Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport is top 5 nationally (per Forbes).

The Bay House in (Southern) Lincoln City is probably the best restaurant on the Oregon coast.

There will be plenty of wine events and general tastings on the drive from Portland to Lincoln City. (Take 99 to 18 to 101...skip Salem IMHO).

Noting #1 was wine, you can check out: http://www.oregonwine.org/Home/ and see if it helps in your planning. You can drive down I-5 and then go over to the coast and then back up. However there is not many wineries along the coast.

You could also swing up I-84 and stay in Hood River for some river fun, also more wine out there. I don't know of many festivals that weekend.
