Hi!

We will be staying in Golders Green on our first trip to England.

Where can we find a small street atlas which includes both Golders Green and the more central London tourist areas?

Thanks.
H.

I would suggest splitting this post out in a separate thread, perhaps in the London forum, but....

A regular London A-Z (http://www.a-zmaps.co.uk/?nid=31&iid=3443) should suffice. But frankly, Golders Green isn't that big or complicated an area, so you'll be totally fine with a regular freebie tourist map that only covers central London.

I would humbly suggest that although Golders Green is pretty much the 'heart' of Jewish London, most non-Jews would have no idea whatsoever where it is, so I think the post ought to remain here.

I have gone with this advice, though I have split the post into a thread of its own.

Thank, SD.

Another atlas-type question:

It looks like we'll sometimes want to get from our hotel in Golders Green to restaurants to the north east by foot, often walking on Golders Green Road and crossing the North Circular Road.

How does one cross? Is there an overpass, or underpass, or what?

Thanks.
H.

I am assuming that you will want to walk from Golders Green Road to Hendon, to get to the restaurants there. To do so you will need to cross the North Circular Road, which is very busy! There is a pedestrian overpass at the junction with Golders Green Road.

GG is basically GG Rd where you'll find most shops, Hendon has a few streets but also pretty much concentrated on 2 streets forming a T

A good place for a map is the Underground station they used to have local maps of the surrounding area, thusly you will need to get to each areas station that youd want a map for. fits into a pocket so its easy to carry around rather then a travel book

There is supoose to be an a suite B&B 1 block from NC Rd but its a walk up to the Underground and shops in GG, Croft Hotel is better located for traveling and shops. there is a Holiday Inn Express on Fincley Rd its appx 20 mins walk to the NC where GG & Hendon meet

GG-Hendon is walkable but can take 20min or so easily depending on which end of GG Rd you're on. You might just hop on one of the buses toward Hendon.

Next question in the series:

We should be getting to Golders Green on a Sunday, and will be much better off if we can find certain non-touristy everyday items like an electrical plug adapter and maybe an extension cord. Are the everyday-item stores in GG open on a Sunday?

By the way, what are "extension cords" called in British?

Thanks again.

Not all of them. Try Shuttlers in Bridge Lane (off Finchley Road, about 10 minytes walk from Golders Green Road). They are an excellent hardware store which should have any adaptors etc you need. They are open on Sunday until about 1pm

extension cables
