Thought I might try to collect some points with the shopping portal when I buy a new phone. It appears to make little sense though.

Take the 3 Mobile section:


Customer earns rewards on select contracts. PayAsYouGo transactions are excluded from customer rewards.

There is a one-time mileage bonus. There are no further details, instructions or T&Cs except for a disclaimer that the miles may take years to post.

Clicking through brings you to the 3 site, presumably with a tracking cookie. There is no indication as to which contracts earn miles. The situation is complicated further by the fact that some products need to be ordered over the phone.

Is it worth bothering with the shopping portal? The miles associated with mobile contracts aren't huge but it would be nice to get something.

If you're going to buy a contract anyway, well, yes, why not make the extra clicks to shop through the portal. Otherwise, no.

Or go through the likes of Quidco or a similar cash back service where you'll earn a tidy kick-back, which would probably be more than the value of the bmi miles anyway.
