Let's start with alcohol... Finnair still serves free wine and beer, for hard liquor the cost is 5 EUR if I remember correctly.

Food flying HEL-KIX in Y was nothing special, but in March flying NRT-HEL the food was IMHO one of the best Y meals I've had in a long while. I have a recollection that NRT and NGO flights have better food and other service than KIX flights.

For Finnair economy class, I would sincerely recommend the AVML (Asian/Indian vegetarian meal). It's also a favourite of the AY cabin staff. It's pretty good ex-HEL but can be excellent from the outstations.

Generally special meals are "mass production" at HEL but individually made at outstations. This should be the same with all major airlines, hub catering is different from others.

Is that something to be recommended also for Business class? While I am not a vegetarian per se, I have an AY flight ex DEL coming up soon. I could opt for the AVML if it is likely to be substantially better than the regular J meal.

Sorry, but at least I have never ordered AVML on longhaul biz. You could check the AY menu thread on this forum to get some picture on what's on offer during mealtimes.
