From next Wednesday (20th of May) Ryanair will run Web Check-In only and even charge for it!
People unable or unwilling to use web check-in will have to pay a €/£40 penalty fee.

Ryanair will remove its £10/€10 airport check-in fee and introduce a £5/€5 online check-in fee per person, per flight, on new bookings, other than promotional fares (fares of “Free”, “€1” and “€5” will include web check-in on a free of charge basis), while a €40/£40 ‘boarding card re-issue fee’ will be introduced to encourage all passengers to arrive at the airport with their pre-printed web check-in boarding card.

What do you think?

I think it's making a little attractive Airline even more unattractive.... The Online Check-In Fee is simply ridiculous (you have to check in one way or another) and a hidden charge they should get sued for... Chargin £40/€40 for people unable to check in online (non-europeans) makes it even worse...

What a rip-off!

[Edit: Wasn't certain whether this is Newsstand worthy, or Budget Travel only. Admins: Feel free to move. Thanks]

You have to wonder how many promotional fares there will be - one or two per flight so that Ryanair can have low headline prices still?

And I loved the guy on the radio who justified the fiver charge as it would reduce the costs of tickets

LOL.

Yeah, because why should I pay to subsidize someone else's soda, checked bag, or boarding pass???? :D::rolleyes:

You have to wonder how many promotional fares there will be - one or two per flight so that Ryanair can have low headline prices still? Now, now, you know it doesn't work like that. ;)

FR's 'come on' prices change two or three times a week. Over the past two or three weeks, their promotional fares at www.ryanair.com have been £5, £2.50, £1, £7.50 and £10 per flight with wide availability and range of destinations. Depending on date and route, you may need to be a little flexible, just like with legacy carriers.

I know my limits. I bought at £2 round trip all in, travelling with hand baggage and using online check in, paid for with a Visa Electron card. Today's price is £10, far too much for me. :p I wonder what tomorrow's price will be.

Does this mean that non-EEA will finally be able to use online check-in? Or will we be forced to apply by post for reimbursement of the £40 fine?

A spokesman for the British Psychiatric Institute said: "Ryanair is no longer something to be hated, it is something to be pitied. It's as if Mr O'Leary has suffered some kind of severe mental trauma. Perhaps he has finally flown on one of his own planes.

Love it :D

I just checked in a friend from the US with a US passport, worked perfectly fine.

I can understand checking in online when you're oubound from home, but what about when you're flying inbound to home? It's not always easy to find a computer with internet access and a printer at some holiday hotel?

Check in is available 15 days ahead of flights. I guess for the few who can't check in before they leave, they must look for a library/internet cafe/hotel/whatever or take their chance at the airport.

Seems like an obvious business opportunity would be to set up internet kiosks with printers in the airside hall at airports that Ryanair serves.

I believe there is a saying back in sooty Lancashire in the past to the gist of You pays your money, you takes your choice ................. but it seems that legacy carriers may become more competitive price-wise for the flying public if Ryanair gets away with this, and other LCCs follow suit .........

You have been able to do so since - magically around mid-March- Ryanair decided here was no security issue about non EU/EEA passengers. Check the website and other forums here

That´s Ryanair. People have choices. They choose to fly Ryanair, they choose to be mistreated. Nothing to complain about - they know what they put themselves into.
