Hi all,

anyone knows that if the second leg of my flight is star alliance can I still check in and get the boarding pass for it when I check in for the CX flight for the first leg?

Or I must go through the immigration at the layover airport, do the check in there, go through the immigration again? Since i dont plan on checking in my luggage I assume I can do the check in at the transit area?

Any advice to cut down the possible wait time? ie. avoiding the immigration

happy flying.

Most international airports have an airside transit desks where you can get onward boarding passes without going through immigration. Which airport are you transiting at?

Checking luggage through is a slightly separate issue. For most major carriers CX should be able to check the luggage through so long as you can show them the ticket for the second flight at check-in.

All bigger airports I am familiar with have transit counters where you can get boarding passes for your next flight. At smaller airports you can usually also stay airside and go to the gate or they have connection lounges (like CAI) where somebody takes your passport and ticket (printout) gets your next boarding pass.

I don't think CX can issue boarding passes of non OW airlines, they can check luggage thru (like to LH flights - did that in the past) even on different tickets.
What is your connecting airport?

thanks for the prompt replies. the connecting airport is Johannesburg and the flight is SA. But on the other hand, if CX can really check the luggage all the way through it would be great, although I would still be concerned if the airport luggage handlers would mess that up since they are with different airlines though.

They should have no problems checking your luggage through. (at least I've never had any problems when connecting with LH).

I also agree about the airside transit desks. Very easy and convenient. Just remember to show your baggage stumps to the transit desk staff, so that they can make sure that your luggage gets connected with the SA flight.

Good luck!

Cheers,
Joe

I don't know how it works in JNB, but ex-HKG, CX was able to check bags and issue an onward boarding pass for a connecting LH flight.
