Not a bad deal, especially for those who don't quite fly enough on HA inter-island achieve Gold status.

It would be an even better deal if you are not required to have a same-day Mokulele flight to use (as HA requires for entrance to its lounge for Golds/Plats).

My recollection is that AQ had very nicely renovated the lounge in HNL not too long before they went under.

But you have to ask yourself what exactly you're paying a cheaper rate for (vs. a Premier club membership). IIRC, MW doesn't have operating lounges at all neighbor island airports. Plus if you're flying Hawaiian a lot, the extra $70 for a Premier Club membership might be worth the Premier Club perks, which you wouldn't get flying HA and visiting MW lounges.

As someone who'll be looking to purchase either a Premier or Alii Club membership soon, I'm not sold by the cheaper price.

Good points, slippahs. I've emailed them to ask if a same-day flight is required to access.

Another helpful thing would be know whether Ali`i lounge membership also gets you priority security.

And if so, I wonder if they can program the system to print some priority security indicator on the grocery store receipt style boarding passes they use. :D

That seems to be the future of airline boarding passes, no? Thermal ink receipt style printers. Sigh.

What they really need though is OLCI, IMHO..

MW BP's are a step beyond the typical thermal BPs you see. the stock comes out of a roll type printer and then they tear it off. No perforated stub.

I do like MW, I just think the BPs are funny. I have heard of others budget airlines having similar BPs.

That was what I was referring to (not the kiosks kind). NW moved to that type of BP "stock" about a year or two ago at HNL if you check in with an agent.

I've had the same type of boarding pass on Spirit, Air Tran, & JetBlue. United in Maui seems to be using the same type of paper, but still comes out like a regular boarding pass.. not quite used to it!

Friend at Mokulele said a *case* of the thermal rolls of paper is the same cost as a *single* box of ticket stock that the other airlines used. That is quite the cost savings!!!

Just as a point of reference, Bob Crandall (former CEO of AA) once said that the traditional boarding pass card stock and the printers needed to support them (which broke down frequently) cost the legacy airlines $1 more per flight to process a passenger vs. Southwest's old plastic boarding passes.

One change I noticed this week at HNL. The old Aloha lounge had a free and unprotected wifi signal that could be nicely glommed on to while sitting at the inter-island terminal makai Starbucks. Mokulele's wifi is password-protected, though.

The 'new' normal thermal paper BP's that most carriers use cost about 10 cents a page at least at AS (IIRC)... but those old BP's are so collectible :p

And to link MW & AS ;) I know there was once a rumor of AS Boardroom members using MW Ali'i lounges (perhaps only if they flew on MW metal) and possibly extending to AS elites... any one hear of this recently?
