Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Convert AMEX-US Reward points to Asia Miles?

I posted this on AMEX forum but seems no one replying that, I am just trying my luck here.

I have my US-based AMEX card with reward points that I didn't use for a couple years, I am planning to close my US Card, so I can do myself some "Cost Cutting" and I do spend more time here in HKG/TPE.

But I don't think US-AMEX could convert to Asia Miles, what should I do?

maybe convert to Starwood Preferred Guest first? SPG can then convert to Asia Miles with a 1:1 ratio plus you can get 5000 pts bonus for every 20000 pts converted

Thank you very much, I found my spg gold offered from UA, I will transfer them. the bonus is really cool! 20,000 Rewards Points = 25,000 Asia Miles!!

I am using the CX/AMEX in HK now. They are simply 1:1

Thank you very much again

Personally, I don't know why you would want to do that. SPG you can get hotels at only 2000 points for a day, and for every 4 days you get one day free. I always use SPG points for hotels rather than convert them to airline points. You need 90K for Y ticket for Cathay.

I have 2 cards:

AA MC - I accumulate them to 110,000 points so I can get a J class Cathay... :)
AMEX SPG - for hotels, 5-star hotel at 2,000 points? Can't beat it

I try to only use Marco Polo points for J class upgrades... until I got married and my wife insists that I save them for free Y tickets... urgh...

2000 points for a 5-star? No, in fact I have not used my SPG ponts on hotels yet - a night in Sheraton Kowloon cost 12000 points!

It depends on places I guess. I recently stayed at Sheraton in Taipei, 2000 points a night, 8000 points for 5 nights (1 free night.)

No, 20k Amex reward points does not equal 25k Asia Miles. The conversion to SPG points is 1:3, so you need 60k Membership reward points = 20k Starpoints = 25k AsiaMiles.

Sometimes Amex/SPG offer a "bonus" 1:2 conversion, but I haven't seen that in a while.

Um, yes, unless there's another Sheraton in Taipei that's where I stayed, and yes at 2,000 points, and I only used 8,000 points for 5 nights with one free night promotion.

Whatever happened, screw up on SPG, Sheraton running a special, whatever, I stayed in Taipei for 5 nights using only 8,000 SPG points.

I believe you are talking about "Four Points" BY Sheraton
thats a little bit far out from the city, but is great that you got a free night. Westin is having some anniversary promotion too, Sorry better stop or will be off topic!

Yes I successfully convert all my points to spg. thank you all for help!

OK, yes, there is another "Sheraton" -- a Four Points, not a luxury hotel, though I believe it's relatively new so I'm sure it's still pretty decent. And it's not really "in" Taipei.

Listen guys, you can believe what you want, please do not insult my intelligence.

I stayed at Sheraton in Taipei, the one on Zhong-Shao East Road, not Four Points, not some cheap imitation, the Sheraton that's right in the heart of Taipei.
