I have a colleague of mine who wants to tarvel SFO-HKG-DXB on CX and his flight from SFO arrives in HKG at 18.50 and his next flight to DXB is on next day at 16.05. he can not enter HKG becuase he will need a visa and it will take him long time to get.

In that situation, what he can do in order to spend that long lay over in HKG. Is there any dayrooms for transit passenegrs or he will spend all the lay over in the corridors of the airport ? He is travelling in economy class

From the state department website:

A visa is not required for tourist visits of up to 90 days by U.S. citizens.

I'd hate to spend 24hrs in an airport. There's also a hotel attached to terminal 1 if he doesn't feel like siteseeing. If that's too expensive, he could also buy a day pass to one of those premier lounges.

What's his nationality? Some require a Hong Kong visa even for transit.

On the airside, there are the paid Plaza lounges with day beds (not rooms). There are also recliner seats in the general departure areas.

But it'd be horrible to have to spend that much time there.

He hold a pakistani passport that require him to get visa to HKG even for transit purpose and he needs one month to get the visa from the consulate and he must leave with in one week time for his work assignment so he has no time to apply for his visa.

Would it work to get the boat to Macao? You can do this without passing through HK immigration. According to their tourism website you can get visas on arrival for MOP100 (=GBP8).

Pakistani passport holders need a visa for HKG even if they stay airside in transit. If he does not have such a visa then CX would not allow him to board the flight at SFO.

(See the table and notes at the HK Immigration (http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/hkvisas_4.htm#part2) website.)

He cannot even get to HKG, because a visa is required even if remains airside:

He needs to fly through some other airport.
