I need to rent a car for my niece. She is 21. The surcharge for a 6 week rental adds up. Any suggestions to lower my cost?
Thank you all.

There are some CDP that reduce/remove the underage fee, such as ABA and other corporations, but people have mixed opinions about using them when you are not elegible. cordelli May 11, 09, 11:06 am If you are not currently #1 Gold, this would be a good reason to join (you can search for free or discount membership too). They might try to give you some song and dance about not being able to apply the CDP since it is your first Gold rental, but don't buy any of that nonsense. Speak to a manager if they give her the run-around. $290.66 for Sunday - Friday in midsized car; without the underage waiver it would have been $490~. sosafan May 12, 09, 2:44 pm I know that someone who was 18 and not yet 21 was able to rent a Uhaul pickup truck. It looks like $20 per day plus $1 per mile, so depending on where she is going... http://www.uhaul.com/ cordelli May 12, 09, 9:53 pm There's a link to a coupon in this thread http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hertz/953426-problem-coupon-code.html to waive the fee for 21 to 24 year olds They are calling it Give a Rental Car a Life BLI-Flyer May 12, 09, 9:57 pm I need to rent a car for my niece. Note that if you are using your credit card and counting on your credit card for insurance coverage, most have a 30-day rental limit for such coverage. You might need to rent a car for 4 weeks, return it, and rent another for two weeks if you want that coverage. Check your credit card rental car terms, and also your individual auto policy terms to see if she'll be covered. In many cases immediate family members are covered, like children and spouses, but coverage might not extend to your niece. willcoop Jun 3, 09, 11:12 am I saw the offer 2 weeks ago. I already have #1 Club Gold as I was able to sign up through some US Airways elite promotion back in the day when I was 20. However, I wanted this Gold Family CDP code so I could avoid the charges for the next year or so. I called Hertz and they said I would need to sign up for Club Gold again through this promotion in order to get access to this CDP. Since I didn't want to create an entirely new account I signed up my younger brother and nabbed the CDP code at the time of sign up. CDP 1826991 I haven't used it yet but when I was searching for a rate it appeared to work. It appears that it can be combined with other promotion codes too. For weekend rental from MKE this saturday and returning monday morning with regular AAA CDP and PC 104182 (50% off weekend airport) I was quoted $112.39, of which $54 was age differential charge. When I used this Gold Family CDP and the same PC I was quoted $46.30. |
