Hello,

I recently purchased a T-Mobile 3G HSDPA USB Modem Web n' Walk on ebay from England with the intent of using it here at home with my T-Mobile data account. I normally use a GC-89 Sony Ericsson modem but my new Acer Netbook does not have a PCMCIA slot.
Since it is designed for use in Europe the software that came with it only has profiles for European T-Mobile carriers. My questions are:

Can it be configured for use in the U.S. ?

Will it need to be unlocked to do so?

Will I need software / drivers from the manufacturer instead of T-Mobile?

Thanks in advance!

1) Yes, but it'll most likely only do EDGE, as the T-Mobile US 3G frequency is different
2) Yes, you'll need to Google ways to unlock it
3) You'll probably need either the generic software for the modem, or will have to manually setup the connection

In the end, it's gonna be a major pain in the backside. Sadly, there is currently only one US T-Mobile 3G adapter, but you'll pay $250 for it without a contract ($50 with).

Then again - if you have been using the GC89, you are used to EDGE, so it may be worth trying to unlock the UK one.

Of course, since TMobile 3G data coverage is so abysmal right now it doesn't matter much. Unlocked you may be able to use that device with AT&T though, since their 3G spectrum is commonly available on quad-band devices.
