Newsstand - Ryanair will restart to talks both Boeing or Airbus

But Chief Executive Michael O'Leary said that based on previous talks, Boeing and Airbus are "in denial" as they insist that their order books are robust, but said he is still interested in ordering "200 to 300 aircraft" from either manufacturer.
Unless Ryanair is going to start some radically different routes, I can't see them buying Airbus. In any case it's only a couple of months since they mothballed some of their fleet due to lack of demand

I would very much agree with this.
Given the latest pax figures on an industry wide basis, where are they simply going to obtain or attract that much demand from?
Another Michael O' Leary PR stunt in my opinion.
Well, planes ordered today don't show up tomorrow. They take time to roll off the line. An airline that anticipates growth down the line would want to order now for future delivery.
And I don't get the point about changing routes to justify the Airbus option. Would a bunch of 319s/320s not meet their needs?

Indeed they would want to order now, now is the time as Ryanair did during the last downturn in the aviation industry.
Indeed, the very aircraft that they are receiving now are some of those that were ordered 2001/2002.
However, several of the routes/destinations are already suffering market saturation & almost surplus supply.
I just cannot see where Ryanair would suddenly deploy an extra 200-300 aircraft without several other airlines going under beforehand.
Perhaps expectations of a further 50 aircraft might be sustainable if there were to be an upturn in conditions. However even when there is such an upturn, such demand will not be there for efficient usage of that many aircraft given the current number of compeititors operating in the market.
