Does anybody know if connecting at MCI from UA to AA will require reclearing security. My wife's brother is looking for the cheapest ticket ORD-DFW and this is it. 2 hour layover anyways so it wouldn't be a problem but just thought I'd check.

Yes. MCI has an unusual configuration, with a security for every 2-3 gates or so.

To get to any sort of concessions or more than a gate or two over, you will need to reclear security.

At MCI, there is separate screening for each gate or small group of gates, so I would expect rescreening to be required.

I don't think there are any concessions after any screening checkpoint, just the gate seating areas and luckily, restrooms.

Correct. I should've been more clear. To get to any concessions, you'll have to go outside security and reclear when you're done.

On the bright side, clearing security at MCI rarely takes very long. I have never had to wait longer than five minutes.

Not exactly true. There is a small stand selling pastries and drinks at least in the UA gates. MCI is a GREAT O/D airport. Not very good for transit though.

A change of terminal is involved in this connection (United-Terminal A) and AA is Terminal C. However, it is fairly easy to get between terminals. After deboarding the aircraft, just walk outside (about 30 yards from jetway to curb) and look for the Red Inter-Terminal bus which will take them to Terminal C. They will then have to clear security (but security at MCI is a breeze even on the busiest days).

Keep in mind also that United is Terminal A and American is Terminal C. At MCI this will require exiting the A terminal building and hopping on a (red) transfer bus to the other terminals. As illustrated above you will need to re-clear security at your AA gate.

If the traveler has access to the AC (also airside), food is also available there (they serve a decent-tasting BBQ pork sandwich in there). :)
