I will be arriving on SAA ex JNB at 12.15 connecting to UA departing 20.40 hrs to SGN next week. Would it worthwhile to head into town or should I simply waste my time in a lounge. I have been to HKG a couple of times but I have never used public transport to get into town, so I have no clue as to how long it would take. Also, can one store luggage somewhere at HKG?

Thanks a mill.

hello
the efficiency of the airport and public transport in HK is world class so I think it is safe to head out, if you go to Central (CBD) only and by airport express train (23mins to CBD as advertised). You will be juicing 5 or 6 hours in HK that you can do a lot with

For luggage storage, there are storage somewhere between T1 and T2 at HK airport. Pretty convenient if you will be taking the express train because that place is just right underneath the platform.
(try to check your bags directly to your ultimate destination)

Thank you very much for the reply. ^

I'll go into the CBD then. The luggage storage facility would only be for my hand luggage as I wouldn't want to schlepp it around. Checking the rest through shouldn't be a problem at all from SA to UA.

There is also a left luggage office at the HK Airport Express station in Central. It is on the same level as the airline check ins, tucked into the corner past the Starbucks, the travel agency and the escalators to the MTR. HK$40.00 for three hours last time I used it.

I am pretty sure the Airport Express offers a same-day return ticket for the price of a single journey ticket - just enquire at the ticket counter.
