I flew economy on SFO-ICN (KE 24) and ICN-BOM (KE 655) a couple of days ago. SFO-ICN was a 777-200 with a 2-5-2 configuration. ICN-BOM was a 330 with a 2-5-2 configuration.

No AVOD on either flight. The overhead selection was downright lame on both flights. Only two movies on the entire 12 hr 50 min SFO-ICN flight (one English, one Korean) with an old black-n-white baseball documentary as filler that just went on and on. One movie on the 8hr ICN-BOM flight and the same baseball documentary.

Previous reports on FT had indicated the SFO-ICN 777-200 had AVOD. Not sure if this was an one-off thing but flyer beware!

Seats were fairly comfortable and service was above average. Meals were so-so. Its nice when the FAs actually do smile all the time.

KE does last minute equipment swap occasionally. I checked and 3 out of 4 flights were with old configuration last week. Sorry about your experience.

They swap for irregular operations, or high load (old one carries more passengers), or rotation problem, etc. They will continue do that until upgrading work finishes which is to happen in 2-3 years. Somehow SFO (772) and MXP-FCO (747) are "priority" routes to be downgraded when KE needs to do.

I wonder whats taking so long for Korean Air to refurbish all their mid/long haul aircrafts? I'm guessing with the new seats being launched, KE will be working more faster.

It's about time they'll be converting their A330's

Korean Air configured all 330s with 2-4-2 seating. With 2-5-2 seating, you would have been squeezed to near-death already.

Good catch. Yes, it was 2-4-2. I should know, since I managed to snag a 4 seater row on the ICN-BOM flight. That was the saving grace of the trip :)

But seriously, if KE is going to fly these planes with no AVOD for a couple of years more, they need to upgrade the programming quality and quantity.

According to KE's recent press release, they should be refurbishing most of their mid/long haul aircrafts (777's and 330's) with new generation seats for the next 1-3 years

Completed the return segments BOM-ICN and ICN-SFO last week. Sadly, no AVOD this time too and got to see the same baseball documentary. This has got to be the lamest entertainment selection ever!

No AVOD --> AVOID until new planes.

Thanks for posting this - I am about to buy SFO-ICN-BOM tickets for my family and we would need to avoid KE if AVOD is missing...

Before I saw this post, I called KE and they told me that SFO-ICN flights have AVOD! But Seatguru and also KE site shows the two configurations for 772 equipment, so I checked Flyertalk and came across your post!

How often is 772v2 (without AVOD) used by KE on SFO-ICN - or is it dependent on the day of the week - does anyone know?
