Starwood Preferred Guest - sheraton new york towers club lounge rant

I am at the sheraton ny in the towers on an upgrade to a regular room in the towers. we checked in saturday and they told us the lounge was open sunday pm only and for breakfast and happy hour during the week. no problem. . tonight we decided to have a drink in the club lounge. i knew that the drinks were not free but we felt like a snack and the lounge is ok. we ordered two glasses of chardonnay and they poured us hess select which costs between $12 or $13 a bottle in the city ( we almost bought it last night ). at the trade show i am attending they sell it for $8 a glass in the hotel bar. now i admit it is my fault for not asking the price but after all it is the towers lounge. imagine my surprise when the bill came for $14 a glass. i never imagined that i would feel totally ripped off by a sheraton towers lounge. hard to believe that they would stick it to what are supposed to be their best customers.

Wait until they try to extort you for a tip at breakfast

had drinks last night at the four seasons bar. was quite happy to pay $16 a glass there as that is the type of place that should charge that amount as opposed to the sheraton club lounge.

Morals of the story:
1) only have breakfast in the Sheraton Club Lounge
2) if you want a drink in the Sheraton Club Lounge, always ask for the price first :p

Drink prices and policies are very inconsistent at Sheraton lounges. Other lounges don't even have drinks.

Drinks are free at the Sheraton Great Valley ... but a glass of wine is $6.50 at the Sheraton Cincinnati North ... the Sheraton Suites Wilmington doesn't even offer alcohol - but the attendant will go begrudgingly all the way downstairs to the bar for you and get you a drink (which you pay for) ... they were free at the Sheraton Park Ridge (but that was a terrible place otherwise) ... the Sheraton Commander uses coupons and you get 2 free ... I could go on and on (wow I guess I drink a lot).

Aside from the free policy (which is obviously best) I like the policy at the Westin Princeton. In their lounge, drinks are on the honor system where you serve yourself (beer, wine, and cocktails) but you mark down on a sheet your name, room number, and number of cocktails you imbibed. It shows up on your room bill at a noticeably discounted price than if you had drinks at the bar downstairs.
