Starwood Preferred Guest - Are there any waivers for Mexico travel?
Condition One

I read somewhere online (so it must be true :D) that SPG is waiving changes for Mexico reservations. However, I couldn't find a reference to anything like that on the SPG website. So are there any travel waivers for advance purchases?
I don't have anything at the moment, but being the travel vulture that I am, I'm going to jump down to MEX once all the museums and restaurants open up again. Hopefully things will be stable by next month.
The Sheraton Centro Historico has a prepaid rate of $141/night, compared to $179 for a flexible rate. It's a pretty big difference (no AAA rate or Z4H available).

Dearest Condition One,
Unfortunately, I am not able to advise on the safety of travel to Mexico. I would recommend our members to consult the regular updates coming from the CDC, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Department of Health and Human Services.
Currently, the latest update I have is the waivers for cancellation or amendments are only applicable for stays between April 27th and May 6th 2009.
There is a list of properties involved so do ring up Customer Care or Platinum Concierge to find out more.

As far as I'm concerned, safety regarding the swine flu is a non-issue; it's been completely blown out of proportion. I'll call up the Plat line once I have my dates set for next month. Thanks!

A snippet from the Westin Cancun's Announcements page:
"Starwood Hotels and Resorts will waive penalties for cancelling or changing any reservation at its owned and managed properties in Mexico for arrivals between April 25 and May 6, 2009."
