Qatar Airways Privilege Club - QR and upgrades for Silver and Gold members?

I a frequent flyer as my studies require so. I am always from Japan to Africa or Europe. I always use different airlines so I have tried all most all airlines. Now I have decided to stick to Qatar Airways for many reasons. First their fares from here are so competitive; their service is by far the best compared to other airlines. I am talking about Y class.

Now I will be turning to a silver member this month after my flight to London from Osaka(May 10th) and on the way back(July 8th) I will be a gold member( I will have to be back to Japan for 3 days and I am using Qatar also). I want to ask does anyone know how Qatar Airways treat its silver and gold members. Are upgrades possible or is it just like Singapore air where it’s so hard to get an upgrade even if you are a KF gold member? Is it a good decision to stick only to Qatar Airways?

Does anyone know anything about the silver and gold lounges at Doha airport? What can I get there? What can expect?

QR Silver and Gold lounges are really nothing to brag about although it is a lounge and away from the madding crowd of Doha airport.

You can only get upgraded when the cabin you're in is oversold. But otherwise its either pay the diff, or use your QR miles for upgrades.

I have been pleasantly surprised when I was op-up'd on a flight between DOH and BKK when I was just a Burgundy member. So having status on QR Privilege Club does has its benefits.

Just like with most airlines, you will get priority in being upgraded if the flight is oversold but QR does not do upgrades otherwise.

New company travel policy now requires me to travel in economy. As gold member, its great to be able to use the Virgin clubhouse in LHR. On board,cabin crew have always come round, greeted me and asked me what my choice of main meal is before the meal service starts.

As Guy Betsy says, you can access the lounges in QR - nothing special but at least you can get a drink and something to snack on.
