As a pay as you go customer on both Orange & Vodaphone networks, I am trying to work out if it's cheaper to use my mobile phone to call the UK from NZ or to try & buy a pre payment phone card that i have used on previous trips.
Any ideas would be welcome.

You can look up NZ prepay rates on vodafone.co.nz
For roaming rates on Vodafone UK or Orange you need to check with your providers.

I just got a new calling card here in NY to cover me for my SYD and AKL trip on Sun. Verizion sells it at COSTCO when I called to refill it they tell you to buy a new 1 to save the 15% refilling fee:mad:
I guess they feel this way you'll end up leaving some of the $30 unused and its theirs to keep
I dont know about the UK but calling my friends cell in SYD is .39 a min , calling his home was .07 So I see myself reaching alot of people night time back in NY when I can grab them on their landline if I need to
OK not as convient as using your cell and to avoid Hotel phone fees (if they charge for using 800 #s) I will have to make it my bis to find and use a Pay Phone

I like to keep my US number alive when I go anywhere but in Oz it can get expensive. If you do decide to do that, try to keep yourself off the Telstra network because that has been much more expensive to roam into than any of the others.
