Does anyone know of any Spg hotels in the New York, NewJersey area, that you would be able to get a cheap day rate and have that qualify as an elgible stay,so that 2 stays would equal a FREE weekend night for spg's current promo, or to build up your status?. Or even to have a room for a couple of hours, for a cheap price? Somewhere where you can strike a deal with the hotel??

well its not really cheap but Sheraton Edision,NJ is usually $89/$102 w/tx on the weekends, but that means $204 for a free weekend night somewhere which pretty much negates it being free unless it costs around $500

Norwalk or Merriden Ct the 4Ps are usually $65/69 before tx on weekends I think thats the cheapest youd find anywhere in the NY area. So book a Fri at 1 and Sat at the other spend Sat driving thru Southern Mass or go to NewPort,RI for the day

yes, interesting, does anyone know if "day rates" do qualify?
In particular, I am thinking of the day rate at the FRA Sheraton...

Yes, day rates would qualify for stay credit. Though, I would book them through a Starwood resource (web sites, hotel directly, Customer Contact Center, etc.) to avoid any collateral eligibility misunderstandings.

In some hotels the day rate is more expensive than a regular rate. I'm still looking for a hotel that would give me a cheap day rate for a few hours.

Do someone know if the rates booked under the 20% discount rate for 2-night-stay ( Z2H code ), by the Starwood call center, are eligible stays?
Thanks a lot!

William

Is this a new policy or has it allways been the case that day rates qualify for stay credit.??

Not a new policy. Day rates have long qualified for stay credit, but they do NOT qualify for NIGHT credit.

I would guess that many hotels which offer day rates do not want to offer them through SPG.com's regular search engine. SPG.com doesn't handle checking in and out on the same day, and there is a big risk that someone would book the day rate and then argue that they did not understand that they couldn't stay overnight.

I would think that the best bet would be to simply call the hotels near the major international airports. OP, IIWY, I'd start with the lowest category properties such as those near EWR.

So you can not qualify for platinum by booking 25 day rates.

Incorrect.

You CAN qualify for Plat by booking 25 day rates. But they have no qualification value to you if you expect to qualify based on nights.

An example: Nine 5-night reservations (9 stays / 45 nights) and 5 day-rate reservations would NOT get you Plat. You'd only have 14 stays and still only 45 nights.

Can anyone share their cheapest day rates they have gotten anywhere around the US? These may come in handy for folks who are making mileage/mattress runs towards the end of the year. In addition, what are some of the cheapest SPG hotels in the country (preferably near an airport)?
