Can anyone suggest a reliable taxi company to book a car with from JNB to Sandton? I'm not sure I just want to wait in the que and take a normal taxi? Is this safe?

I am South African and I would rather eat hot tar than take a regular taxi.

Ask the hotel to get you one and pay the rip off price or, ah can't remember now their name. I will report back.

They use white Mercedes Vitos and have red branding on the side. They are good. There drivers like to talk which I don't really so I send my mother on them that way she doesn't whine on the phone to me about what ever trivial thing is currently bugging her.

There are tons of private companies that can do airport t-fers from Sandton to JNB.

One I've used for years (literally) is Dreamscapes, ZAR 340 one way. Inquire at bookings@dreams.co.za. They use regular cars, however they're professional, clean, on time or early (important to me), aren't overly chatty, very safe, and adjust the temp. to however you like it.

I have often used Avis 'point-to-point' (http://www.avislux.co.za/luxcars/FleetRates/PointtoPoint/RatesZones/tabid/74/Default.aspx).

They are not inexpensive but very professional.
