I have worked in Houston all my life. But subsequently had to move to Colorado due to certain reasons. My wife and I have many good friends back there in Houston. I have been invited to a friend’s daughter’s wedding next weekend. It’s been almost a decade since I left Houston. So I would like some recommendations on good luxury hotels in Houston.

Don't think this is the right place for the post, but here's my answer, in no particular order:
St. Regis
Zaza
Four Seasons
Granduca
The 4 seasons and the Regis are both older hotels, and the Zaza and Granduca are both newer.

A fifth option is the Omni, near the Galleria area (in the Riverway complex). it was originally built as a Four Seasons. The location is a nice combination of a park-like setting that is close to everything.

Houston has changed a lot in the last decade. Comfort Suites is a brand new all suite hotel in Tomball where you and your wife can have a very relaxed and comfortable stay. The warmth and hospitality of the staff is noteworthy. All the suites are equipped with latest gadgets like plasma televisions, MP3 jacks, internet connections, etc. Visit the site www.comfortsuitestomball.com (http://www.comfortsuitestomball.com) for details.

Having lived in Houston, you should share where the wedding is - since it's a huge city? For example, if the wedding is in Katy, you wouldn't want to drive all the way to the Woodlands. If the wedding is in the city or downtown, then most previous recommendations are goodl; I'd add the JW Marriott Galleria.
FS is tired but good service. Zaza is pretty good. I'd toss a coin depending on where I was going to spend my time in Houston and price.

...IMVHO...Houston is NOT part of the Midwest...it IS...However, part of the South/Southest US ....or South Central US, whichever you feel is more approrpriate.
