Mexico - Going to Puebla, travel suggestions?
Looking for any tips on getting to Puebla from PHL or EWR. Co-workers that have made the trip before say it's a pain, and that you should fly to mexico city, then take a short hop flight or better yet, drive.
Am I asking for trouble with a drive?
Any other suggestions, tips, comments?
Thanks.

Never flown directly to Puebla.
However, traveling there from Mexico City is very easy, although I most certainly would not personally drive there. There are several buses to Puebla that leave directly from the Mexico City airport, as well as buses that leave from the TAPO (I believe..) bus station in Mexico City (leaving anywhere from every 15 minutes to every 30, if I recall correctly). My memory is a little hazy, even through I was there about a month ago, but going "Primera Class" is pretty cheap, with comfortable buses offering dubbed movies and reclining seats. Total trip time was around 2 hours, I think.
Once in Puebla, try to make a day trip to Cholula to see the pyramid and the general city. I found (the city center of) Puebla to be rather charming, particularly at night. Cholula wasn't too bad either. If animals are your thing, you could make a day trip to the Africam Safari park as well, although I'm not entirely sure how well the animals are treated there. And, of course, there are the standard tourist museums to see, should you be interested in them.

Great info, thanks. Two questions:
1) Are the busses air conditioned (e.g. can I go right to the office after getting off the bus, or will I need to go shower...)
2) Any idea what I might google to find a bus schedule or other info?

First class and tourist class buses are air conditioned. Quite well, actually...I and my travel partner both wore light sweaters on the buses to stay warm.

A simple "mexico city to puebla bus" search revealed this handy guide:
http://www.ixeh.net/travel/puebla/p-links.html
If you scroll down, you'll see the "Transportation" links. Estrella Roja and Grupo Ado are the two main bus companies servicing the two cities. I traveled on Estrella Roja and had absolutely no problem getting tickets 10 minutes before I wanted to leave--and, in each case, the buses were never more than half full.

Excellent, thanks.

Ha. That's exactly the search I did, but skipped over that link for some reason. Thanks again :)
