Ryanair requires check in on all its flights even if you aren't carrying luggage.

If you have a German id card then you don't need a passport as you can use that and check-in online.

If you booked after the 19th March then you can check-in online, otherwise you'll have to check-in at the airport

You have to be German to get a German identity card (Personalausweis).

Ryanair make it quite clear on their web site that the only documents they now accept are documents that are deemed to be "travel documents". A national identity card is a travel document, a foreigner's residence permit (Aufenthaltserlaubnis) is not. Considering Ryanair no longer accept driving licences I very much doubt they will accept residence permits.

The OP will need to show his passport, not his residence permit.

And as you correctly say, if he booked before the latest rule change took effect he will have to check in at the airport but if he booked after 19 March he doesn't.

Residence permit works as a visa so he also needs it.

This is an INTERNAL flight. It is not up to airlines to check the status of someone who is already in the country. The OP may not even have or need a residence permit, depending on the length of time that he is spending in Germany. (Erasmus is a student exchange programme, for those who aren't familiar with it)

Just one other thing - OP, are you aware that Ryanair's flights do not depart from Frankfurt but from a place called Hahn which is about two hours away by public transport? Unless you're based somewhere near Hahn it really doesn't make sense to fly from there to get from Frankfurt to Berlin, city centre to city centre it's much quicker to take the train.

Residence permits are usually part of the passports, at least for Turkish people in Germany for at least 5 years now, so are working permit. They are glued into the pages of the passport.
