As a SkyMiles® member, you can earn miles every day, without even flying. For a limited time, earn up to an additional 25,000 bonus miles when you use our non-airline SkyMiles partners. The more partners you use, the more miles you earn.
Here's how it works: First, visit delta.com/pileonmiles (http://delta.com/pileonmiles) and register. Then, between April 22 and June 22, 2009, you can earn 4,000 bonus miles for doing business with just 4 unique SkyMiles partners—and up to 25,000 bonus miles with 25 unique partners. Our great roster of non-airline partners can provide you with a place to stay, a car to rent, flowers for Mom, and more—making it even easier for you to earn additional bonus miles. How's that for easy?
Even better, we offer many other ways for you to earn miles. Whether you do business with a partner, convert partner points into bonus miles, or buy miles yourself, you'll be eligible for rewards. Be sure to register at delta.com/pileonmiles and discover how rewarding it is to be in the right places.
This is a spectacular offer as I am going to be using a lot of partner services in the next few weeks.
The chance to get miles, is always a good opportunity.

The way the activities are lumped (e.g. "all Hilton chains count as one credit", "all SkyMilesShopping is one credit"), I'm likely going to be stuck between the 8,000 and 15,000 mile thresholds. However, I'm not going to complain.
Now if NW could just provide one last multi-partner spectacular to accompany this program ...

Say I stay at a Starwood brand. How do I "give" my Delta number? Does giving my delta number, replace my starwood number?
If I give my Delta number, does that mean I'll not earn starwood points/stay credit but instead earn Delta miles?
If I give my Delta number, in addition to earning Starwood points/stay credit I'll get bonuses miles on Delta?

You'll still earn SPG stay/night credit but not points... you will earn DL miles instead. You'll need to attach your DL number to your SPG account an select DL miles as your earning option. Same holds for Marriott and Priority Club. HHonors allows you to Double Dip and earn both points & miles.

Ah, I see after reading the T&C a little more carefully.
Meh, with all the devaluation, it is not even worth it to switch hotels/car every week just to get a credit. You would lose more in not sticking to you primary program for the subsequent weeks.

Last year I managed to get to the 25 mark. But business was booming. Not so for this year :( I expect to get to 8 but I don't see myself reaching 15 and definitely not 25.
Some interesting comparisons between this year's promo vs last year:
Last year the promo dates included V-tines day. That meant more flower opportunities. This year does include Mother's day.
Last year the thresholds were 3, 6, 12, 20, and 25. The biggest gap was between 12 and 20.. 8 partners. This year the thresholds are 4, 6, 8, 15, and 25. The biggest gap is 10 partner activities. Personally, I find very little incentive to use 10 partners for an extra 10K. And if there is a problem with just ONE of those ten posting properly within the qualifying period then the other 9 would be wasted... at least for this promo.
The AVIS 5K promo had not kicked in during the promo period but Budget had a 3K and 5K offer back then. Avis has the same bonuses for 2009. Five (4-day) rentals from Avis would net more bonus miles than reaching the 25 threshold for this promo. I know of no Budget promo with high bonuses right now. Wish they would run one so I could get 5K and one more partner :)
Here are some notes with last year's promo that would be good to remember for this years:
Just before the promo period ended last year Delta upped the minimum miles one could by to 2000 from 1000. Many who had planned to buy miles at the end of the promo to get one more partner had to buy more miles than they wanted.
Although I haven't used points.com lately, last year one could convert 30 US DivMiles for 1 Delta SkyMIle. It counted as one unique partner: points.com.
IIRC from last year, signing up for e-miles and e-rewards qualified as unique partners. I did not actually earn any miles from e-miles reported to Delta members of SkyMiles who had "activity" and I qualified.
La Quinta is not a "stand alone" partner like Hilton or Marriott. They were grouped with other retailers and only one activity within that group of retailers would count - using many within that group still only counted as one unique partner. It looks the same this year: ... one activity among the following (Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance, Blackberry, Call in Europe, CIBT, Delta Vacations, FIJI Water Delivery Service, getAbstract, Gourmet Center/Biscoff.com, Great American Days, Hartmann Luggage, Hartwick & Grove Wine Merchants, Identity Guard, Java City, La Quinta Inns & Suites, LATHER, Liberty Mutual, LimoRes.net, Organic Bouquet, Organic Style, Orkin, Samsonite, SIRVA-Air Miles for Moving, SkyMall Inc., Sol Meliá Vacation Club, SuperShuttle, My Delta Store, Travelling Connect, Vinessee LLC.

Great advice about the 30:1 US to Delta points.com exchange! I just put that through.
Others may want to hold off on partner activity until a couple days after they sign up for this promo. My recollection is that at least one of the partners from last year's promo (I can't remember if it was points.com or possibly Radisson GoldPoints) used a transaction date of the prior day. So if you converted points on May 1, they actually showed the transaction as having occurred on April 30.
I haven't gone to the points.com website in a while, but YX used to offer a much better exchange rate to Delta than 30:1. You might want to consider that option instead although we are talking about a relatively insignficant amount of miles either way.
It appears that the Delta version of this promo is much more lucrative than the NW version. Initially, I thought it would be relatively easy to hit 8 partners with both airlines for little to no money, but the more I look at NW T&C's, the less likely that appears to be.

Generally they go by the "transaction date" that shows in your activity list, not the posting date. That's mainly because at the end of the promo, activities in the promo period might post later.

This was true of the 2008 promotion. FYI, the activity date for car rental miles will be the day you return it. Return on June 22 - miles post let's say 2 weeks later - activity would count. Return on June 23 and, even though the majority of the rental occurred during the promo period and the activity would NOT count.

I travel for biz. This means my routines are just slightly altered during a promo like this. I would not rent a car I didn't need or check into a hotel JUST to get the activity for this promo. If anyone is thinking of doing that I suggest spending your money on an Avis rental instead (http://www.avis.com/car-rental/html/partner/dl/deltaoffer2009.html). Much better bang for your buck.
A small incremental price difference for a hotel room or car rental stay will be worth the money if I get enough qualifiers. Normally I go with the lowest price even if it would be the same hotel day-in and day-out. Same with cars. For this period I will vary my car choices for short rentals (1 or 2 days) and possibly use one biz trip to cover 5 hotel chains. Last year I was able to knock out 5 hotel partners in one week by mattress hopping each night of a 5-night biz trip. One week I worked and stayed within 6 blocks of an airport so I knocked out 3 car rental companies quickly.
You only need rent 1 day at any of the qualifying car rental companies or one night at a qualifying hotel. Just make sure you designate Delta as your FF choice. Most car rental agencies give 50 miles/day minimum. Most charge a fee to earn miles like 50 cents per day or $1, it varies. Hotels chains sometimes have you earn by amount spent or a flat rate of x miles per day. One-night stays count.
You will only get credit for ONE activity even if you eat 100 meals at 100 different restaurants with SkyMiles dining.
Another tip on getting more partners with flowers:
You don't have to give flowers during the period for it to count. You can buy flowers from teleflora now for delivery after June 22 and it will count (at least that is what I did last year and it did count).

I don't know how much the buy/transfer is going to cost you, but there are a few options that should be cheaper.
If you have them already , emiles or erewards transfers are free. Also, you can get a car insurance quote from Ameriprise for 500 miles which qualifies as another activity for free.

What are the details of your "previous car rental" posting? Did you drop off the car on March 29 and the miles posted on April 15?
Your car rental that is ending on 4/24 should qualify. It should not matter when you picked up the rental. You have until you return a car to change the partner award designation. Delta's goal is to get you to choose Delta for your FF miles earning. So 4/24 is within the promo period and should qualify. Keep track of dates and confirmation numbers so if you don't get the bonus you expect when this promo is over you can provide DL with enough data to show you did indeed get the right number of partners. I was very lucky last year and did not have to get CS involved but I remember others who did have to fight for their bonus.
The thread for last year's DL parnter promo is here: 25K Partner Bonus 2008 - Jan 15-Mar 15 (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta-skymiles/774653-25k-partner-bonus-2008-jan-15-mar-15-a.html). Its a long thread, 80 pages. Although the T&C for the two promos are slightly different the nature of the promo is the same. One can find a lot of really good tips on maximizing the partners. Also, there is info on problems with getting credit and how (and who to contact) to fix problems.

If you're referring to shopping at different merchants thru SkyMilesShopping, it will only count as ONE activity.
For example, to get the 4000 miles, you can make 1 purchase thru skymilesshopping, 1 dine thru SkyMiles dining, 1 purchase thru FTD.com, and 1 purchase thru 1800Flowers. There are lots of other combinations.

For buying from 4 different partners, I can earn an extra 4K miles on top of the ones I would earn for buying stuff (ie 3 points for $1 spent, blah blah blah)?? ...
Yes, you earn the normal miles for the activity. If you register for this promo you get bonus miles from Delta (not the partners) for using their partners.
...And does the "unique" mean like target, officemax, walmart & old navy or does it have to be four different types? like flowers, hotel, electronic store, etc??
You are way off. Let me help. Buying stuff from target, officemax, walmart and old navy do not earn you FF miles from Delta. You only earn them by using the DL Amex. All four purchases would count only as ONE partner and that partner would be Amex (not target, officemax etc). If you use SkyMiles Shopping and buy stuff from all four retailers you would get credit for ONE partner and that partner would be SkyMiles Shopping (not target, officemax, etc).
You can earn three qualifying partners by buying flowers from 1-800-FLOWERS, teleflora, and FTD.com. Each one counts as a unique Delta partner.
You can earn nine qualifying partners by renting from Avis, Budget, Alamo, Hertz, Europcar, Sixt rent a car, National Car Rental, Dollar Rent A Car and Thrifty Car Rental. Each one counts as a unique partner. But two rentals from Avis won't get you two unique partners... just one.
Same with the various hotel groups. A stay at any Hilton property will count as a unique partner. But twenty stays with Hilton at one, two, or twenty different properties will still only count as ONE unique Delta partner: Hilton.
Get the idea? ;)

FYI, if one has ever thought about enrolling in Clear, now would be a good time. You can earn one partner for this promotion as well as 3000 Bonus SkyMiles from Clear.

Of course, any partner activity that does not bring one to one of the thresholds (4,6,8,15, or 25) is wasted for this promo. So unless one really wants a Clear membership for $199/year don't use Clear for this particular promo.
Clear is not mentioned as a partner in the NWA Pile On The Miles promo.

Several Questions and Observations on DL/NWA promos.
1. Does transfer of miles between NWA and DL accounts count as an activity?
2. How often can I get the Ameriprise Quote and Financial Advice? I signed up during the same 2008 promo in Jan-Mar timeframe.
3. I don't live in a state where either 21st/Sentry offer Insurance services (NWA Partners), can I still get a quote with an address from the states they do offer insurance in i.e. what if I am 'planning' on moving there?
(On that same note can I get points for both 21st as well as Sentry since its not explicitly excluded in the T&C)
4. Can I buy a drink at a SPG/Hilton etc. property and have it is count as an activity? (I mean can I give my SPG etc. number to the bartender?)
5. Just an observation - The dates on NWA promo are not entirely clear. The T&C says 4/22-6/22 but after you register the promo shows up in My Promotions (and Points Summary) as 4/22-6/20, not too far but just a note of caution.

Answer appears to be No, as the T&C specifies "one stay" for any of the hotel properties playing this game. So unless you spend a night in the bar, I don't think it will count. :D

They call it a "stay" but last year I remember some FTers having a meal at an SPG property and getting the miles and getting credit for the partner. But IIRC you must have miles as your earning preference with SPG. Same with Hilton although I have never eaten at a Hilton that I was not staying at.

The key to finding cheap partners (besides the ones that are free!) is looking for low shipping costs (downloads are perfect). More clever FTers than me are up on some of the free shipping promos which they will hopefully post here.
SkyMiles subscriptions is new this year. Cheapest magazine ("American Legacy") is $10, several others under $20. No shipping for magazines!
Shutterfly is new this year. Sale prices on top selling gifts for Mother's Day. I see a magnet for $4.79 + shipping. Anything cheaper?
SkyMiles Shopping: Buy.com doesn't seem to have music downloads like they did last year, which was a partner for $1. There are so many retailers in SM Shopping, plenty with things for a $1, but add shipping to that. Some retailers let you order online and pick up at a local store (e.g., REI, Sears, and Snapfish). An iTunes download for $0.99 worked last year.
Under the "SkyRewards" grouping, an Ameriprise or Liberty Mutual insurance quote is free. Lather has replacement pumps for $1 + shipping, and My Delta Store has pens for $5 plus shipping.
On another note, I see where they still need proofreaders for their T&C. No close paren on the long list of "other" (SkyRewards) partners.

I am VERY glad you pointed that out. Last year I tore apart the punctuation of the T&C and was pounced upon by some for being too critical and even called paranoid. I noticed the missing paren but held my tongue. Thanks for running point for me (no pun intended). :p

Any idea if this would qualify for the SkyMall purchase?
http://www.skymall.com/shopping/detail.htm?pid=102873077&c=10410
Can't beat $0.00 if you ask me.
UPDATE: Tried to order and got an error saying " The total net of the order cannot be zero."

Since nothing would post to your SkyMiles account even if SkyMall allowed a total net of zero I would guess that, no, it wouldn't count as a unique partner. But hey, try if you like. Let us know if it works... 6 to 8 weeks after the promotion ends ;)

Office Depot is a good choice:
1. Lots of cheap items
2. You can pick up the order in the store to save the shipping cost. (Although I've yet to find one that knew how to process an online order.)
3. You can buy stuff that you actually need.
Here's a couple of ideas:
Bag of rubber bands Item # 856297 $1.39
Pack of 12 eraser caps Item # 206503 $0.89
Note that some of the really cheap items (i.e. box of paper clips) are "Delivery only."
And as others have pointed out, it's hard to beat iTunes--download one song for $0.99 and you're done.

Sounds great if you actually need some erasers or rubber bands. Most FTers have a computer.... one would guess. A high percentage have a printer to go with their computer. Why not buy a replacement ink cartridge? You know your gonna buy one eventually. Is it so bad to buy it BEFORE you actually run out of ink in the one you have now? :)

Do Live Search Club mileage redemptions count as a partner activity? Live Search Club obviously offers Delta miles, but I can't find Live Search Club redemptions on the "Pile on the Miles" promotion page.
Thanks.

LSC will likely post as a SkyMiles Incentive posting and fall into the large group of miscellaneous partners. It's possible that Delta's computers won't know the difference between the eligible partners and LSC, but since it's in this big group that includes ones that cost nothing (e.g., insurance quotes), it's probably not worth chancing.
Also, unless you have an redemption in process currently, you may not even make the cut-off at this point.

A thought on Skymiles Shopping Mall ...
Restaurant.com is one of the best options for something like this, IMO. I bought gift certificates from restaurant.com during the new account bonus. They have a large number of restaurants in the Atlanta area (and I assume all other metros).
They are constantly running 60, 70, 80 percent off promos (the latter gets you a $25 gift certificate for $2). The certs are electronically delivered immediately.
The only catch is that the restaurants only release a certain number of certificates per month on the first of the month. Also, read the terms carefully, as some restaurants have restrictions like cannot apply to alcohol or cannot use on certain days of week.
Plus, miles post very fast.

Yes, but even FTer's will make mistakes for which they need erasers! :)
Evan, your point is well-taken. But the point of my post was that many people are going to look for the cheapest way to add multiple partners to the list. Look at the posts for the 1,000 NW shopping miles bonus (now expired), where someone took the trouble to find travel bottles at REI for about a buck. Get what you need, sure, but if you can do that quickly and only spend a buck in the process, so much the better, especially in the current economy. (Plus I know that when it comes to ink cartridges, I will comparison shop to find sales. I don't need to do that with a bag of $0.89 erasers.)
Finally, please keep in mind that some FTers are managing the accounts of other family members (kids, grandparents, etc.) It's far cheaper to buy rubber bands, erasers etc. across four accounts than it is to buy the same number of ink cartridges.
Evan!

So true bob. I would never buy 4 ink cartridges at once. They might outlive my printer LOL!

How do you register your SkyMiles number on an iTunes purchase?
You access the iTunes store by signing in at the SkyMiles Shopping Mall portal: www.skymilesshopping.com
After signing in, use the iTunes link to go to the iTunes store and make your purchase. Do not go to other websites before completing your purchase.
Unfortunately, you will not receive any kind of confirmation that your purchase has been linked to your Delta number. And it may take as much as 8 weeks for the miles to show up in your account.

Thanks, would that work if you already had an existing iTunes account or do you have to make a new one?
Also, any number of purchases from the merchants at skymilesshopping.com counts only as 1 activity right?

Hmm. Here's a bit of a wiggle in the T&Cs. I subscribed to Identity Guard for the 5K bonus they are offering. Identity Guard is listed twice, once in the listing of unique partners and again in the catchall category "one activity among the following". I'd guess it's a safe bet that the second listing trumps the first.
It looks like this is another example of Delta's marketing team's need for some remedial education.

Here's another question. I see that skymiles shopping and skymiles shopping UK are listed as separate partners. I wonder if an Itunes purchase from each would count as two partner activities?

A $10 GC with 80% discount at the end of the month is only 60 cents. It doesn't even need to be in a city where you live or travel. Right now until 4/26/09, the discount is 70% with discount code FEAST BONUS, and a $10 GC would cost a whopping 90 cents. Will SkyMiles be given for purchases under $1?
kodakgallery.com has a promo right now for a free Mother's Day card + 99 cents shipping. But SkyMiles can't be earned on shipping. It appears to me that a qualifying card would cost as little as $2.49 ($1.48 + shipping) to get partner activity.
shutterfly offers similar rates for sending a card.
I've identified at least 13 activities so far for me. That's not including any hotel partners, but it does include buying flowers (which I do anyway but wasn't really intending to buy right now).
andyandy,
The website says the following regarding SkyMiles Shopping UK:
"Offers valid for United Kingdom residents only."
SuperShuttle is separated out as a ground transportation partner for NW's promo. Couples traveling together might should book and pay separately if they're each trying to qualify. (Partner activity with your partner! :D)

I did my best to interpret the commas, colons, and semi-colons consistently. I believe there are 78, CORRECTION 77, possible unique partner options... CORRECTION, 76... see Clear #29. Did I get it right? I will edit as needed. As was noted in post #69 (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/11631257-post69.html), Identity Guard is listed individually and in the catch-all. I emailed Delta and will let everyone know their response.

Excellent list! Thanks!
Buy, Gift or Transfer Miles.
I don't find it clear in Delta's T&Cs about whether each of these is a unique qualifying activity. In the NW promo's T&C's, it is explicitly stated that these are each unique. (Not that buying is a good value, but I was planning to do some transfers anyway for the current transfer bonuses.)

Shutterfly is new this year. Sale prices on top selling gifts for Mother's Day. I see a magnet for $4.79 + shipping. Anything cheaper?
Yes, use their pick up prints at Target option. Prints are 20 cents each with that route. If you're nervous about what happens to fractional dollars for miles purposes, order five!
Also, lots of people were talking about the Restaurant.com option, but I am unclear where that comes in for this promo?

I too thought all three would each count individually. But since the T&Cs used the word "or" I went conservative. I will contact them and see what they say.

Thanks, would that work if you already had an existing iTunes account or do you have to make a new one?
Also, any number of purchases from the merchants at skymilesshopping.com counts only as 1 activity right?
Q1: What matters is the Delta SM number you use to log in at the SkyMiles Mall. You could log in at the Mall under your child's Delta account, buy an iTunes using your own iTunes account, and your child will get the mileage.

Restaurant.com is a SkyMilesShopping.com partner. No shipping or in-store pickup required. Quick and easy to make a small purchase from them even if they don't have a restaurant that you want to use. (Though I use them regularly for several local restaurants.)

PLS-for Q2. I really don't want to continue to beat a dead horse but I'm baffled about that. If I go to the SM Mall & order from FTD & 1800Flowers, then that would be 3 activities(or 4 if u use ur DL AMEX)-right.
1) SM Mall
2)FTD
3)188Flowers
4)DL AMEX
What I am also asking is if each merchant on the SM Mall counts as a "seperate activity?"
I haven't backtracked to find out if this promo is still on-going but Hertz has that 1 day wknd rental that is free except for the taxes. If paying w/ ur AMEX, wouldn't this qualify w/ Hertz (assuming the tax r part of ur base points). If so then this could work w/ Alamo's $10/day special.
And could this somehow combine w/ PC's hotel promo of 2 Stays=1 Free Nite. If u took the miles for PC, would that still count as a stay. I read n an earlier post that it counts for SPG who is running the same promo.

I have a flight on a partner airline along with a car rental which start on June 18 and end on June 23, one day after the promotion expires. Can anyone venture a guess as to whether they would count or not?
I tried calling Skymiles and was talking to an agent in some foreign country. I was kept on the phone for 15 mins, she asked me to read the details of the promo to her TWICE, and never did find the T & C's so I figured she wasn't going to give me an authoritative answer, so I eventually hung up. I might try again in a few days once the CS people catch up.

No flight activity on any airline counts toward this promotion.
Previous posts have said that car rentals post on their return date, so a June 23 return would not count either.

your sign up bonus should work. i believe i used that as an activity a couple years ago for a similar promo.

Point.com's version of CC (referred to as GPX) has associated fees. This involves trading miles/points between different individuals. If you "swap" between your own programs, there are no fees of which I'm aware.

Keep in mind that free items, or $0.99 cent purchases will not earn you miles at some places and thus not count as a unique activity. I did a purchase at shutter fly on this promo last year. My purchase was for $0.99. I did not earn any miles because I did not spend one complete $1. It states earn $1 per $1 spent. If you don't spend that $1, no miles. No miles on taxes or shipping is correct also. YMMV

No, the Skymilesmall counts as ONE partner. However, FTD & 1888Flowers (I believe) have their OWN link from delta.com. If you go to these sites from Skymilesmall- it will be counted as a skymilesmall purchase and NOT a separate partner. However, if you use the link from delta.com (in their earning miles from partners section), then FTD would count as a separate partner.

This may be vendor-specific. I remember anecdotal reports that $0.99 music downloads from Buy.com in last year's promo did generate miles activity. However, I think it's better to be safe than sorry. Always spend the few extra cents to exceed the minimum rather than assume the vendor will round in your favor.

You can earn three qualifying partners by buying flowers from 1-800-FLOWERS, teleflora, and FTD.com. On this note, there are two more promos to make TELEFLORA attractive --
~"Earn 10 miles for every dollar spent plus 100 bonus miles on each order" --
http://www.delta.flowerclub.com/
~ 25% off promo code (9CM25) -- doesn't apply to the S&H tho. Code valid till May 9th
So far, I do NOT see a 'gift' section at their site. That would make the cheapest option a flower arrangement for $29.99 plus delivery. The 25% off and extra miles make it good IF you were going to send Mother's Day flowers anyway. My total is going to be $38.70 for flowers to Mom :)

1 Mile does work. So does the signup bonus, as I used that on a previous partner promotion.
As I posted earlier in this thread, if you have a Hotspex.com account, the transfer rate through Points.com is only 5 Hotspex points to 1 DL mile. That alone makes it worthwhile.

So I'm trying to get a rough idea of what I should spend at partners to qualify.
For example, I'm looking at biscoff.com. Since this isn't through the mall portal (right?) I think it counts as a discrete site.
Cheapest item I can find is $6.78, plus $7.95 shipping. That's $14.73, for, potentially, 1000 miles, plus a 250 mile bonus, plus my 14 miles.
So $14.73 for (potentially) 1264 miles. Doesn't seem like an amazing move to me.

That's one way of looking at it -- each unique partner is worth 1,000 miles.
But let's say you already have 14 other unique partners. Would it be worth spending $14.73 to get an additional 8,264 miles? Most would probably say "yes."
That's why it's so important to look at the triggering thresholds. I'm no better off for using 14 different unique partners than I am for using 8 in this promo.
P.S. The only caveat to this is if you are unsure how or when a particular partner will post. In those cases, it doesn't hurt to have one extra partner, so that if one doesn't go through as expected, you have another partner to take its place.

Yes it would count. But then any other activities within the group of misc retailers would not garner you any more unique partners INCLUDING SkyMall. So whether you go through SkyMall or go directly to biscoff.com this purchase would be your one activity for that group.
one activity among the following - Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance, Blackberry, Call in Europe, CIBT, Delta Vacations, FIJI Water Delivery Service, getAbstract, Gourmet Center/Biscoff.com, Great American Days, Hartmann Luggage, Hartwick & Grove Wine Merchants, Identity Guard, Java City, La Quinta Inns & Suites, LATHER, Liberty Mutual, LimoRes.net, Organic Bouquet, Organic Style, Orkin, Samsonite, SIRVA-Air Miles for Moving, SkyMall Inc., Sol Meliá Vacation Club, SuperShuttle, My Delta Store, Travelling Connect, Vinessee LLC.

We all wish that DL would have a running total on our accounts for our partner count. But alas, they don't and I wouldn't count on them adding it anytime soon. It would make their jobs easier because EVERYONE with a discrepancy will be contacting DL at the same time when bonus miles start posting. Keep your spreadsheet with, at minimum, the following information: partner activity date, partner activity transaction number if any, partner activity $ amount if any, SkyMiles posting date, and amount of posting miles.

"Only one activity per partner is allowed, only one Buy Miles activity is allowed"
I think the terms and conditions were the same in '07 and '08. Maybe these 2 threads can tell you if doing a Buy, Gift, and Transfer counted as 3 activities, but I think it was 1.

I also think it's 1, but the fact that NWA's promo has them each unique made me question it. (And NWA's promo T&C's also include the word "or.")
I corrected my restaurant.com promo code in the earlier post. Thanks, fatneko!
I've been careful not to jump into this too quickly. I'm inclined to think that some careful planning is in order so that I direct some of the partner miles to NWA and some to DL. I'm thinking that it's safer to make sure that I get 8 in each program than to struggle for 15 in DL. Plus, I'd like to complete at least 4 in each for my wife's account at the same time.
Anyone familiar with Vinessee's Wine Club? (Limited-time offer for 2K bonus miles for the trial month (http://www.vinesse.com/deltalto0409) ends 5/15/09.) I'm leaning towards giving it a try instead of one of the others in the long list of retail partners which are grouped together.

When I log in to my account and click on Rewards, it shows up under the Sponsor Rewards...below Borders. You can also find it by clicking on $25 Level (it's about halfway down), $50 Level (8th one down), and $100 Level (2nd one down).

I believe that your ability to transfer to a specific airline is dependent on who issued you the "invitation" to join erewards. If you joined through an offer from NW, then you may only be able to transfer to NW.
My transfer option is emiles, which then go into my Delta account.

I also think it's 1, but the fact that NWA's promo has them each unique made me question it. (And NWA's promo T&C's also include the word "or.")That's irrelevant. There are lots of differences between the 2 promotions. For example DL allows SkyMilesShopping, but NW does not allow the WorldPerks mall.
Can I clarify: Erewards is listed - but I can only see NWA as a partner to transfer miles to - not Delta.
If you signed up for eRewards with NW as your sponsor, you can't transfer to DL. If you signed with DL as your sponsor you can't transfer to NW. (There are some accounts that can transfer to both. I originally joined through AA. Since AA left the program, I'm allowed to transfer to multiple airlines.)

My erewards account only lists transfers through emiles. Does this mean that a transfer into skymiles will be viewed as a emiles transaction and not really a erewards transaction? I would like to uses both as unique transactions but I am not sure if this is possible for me.

I believe the T&C say the instigator- i.e. the person who pays the fee!
It does say that in the NW T&C but I don't see that reference in the DL T&C (if you do, could you point it out?) and going through the motions of a transfer, it seems that the payer doesn't have to be either the transferor or transferee. I didn't complete the transaction so perhaps it wouldn't have gone through with a third party payer, but it's still not clear to me whether it's the transferor or transferee who gets the credit. Anyone remember how this worked last year?

Anyone familiar with Vinessee's Wine Club? (Limited-time offer for 2K bonus miles for the trial month (http://www.vinesse.com/deltalto0409) ends 5/15/09.) I'm leaning towards giving it a try instead of one of the others in the long list of retail partners which are grouped together.
I've done Vinesse in the past. It's not a terrible deal if you like wine, and some of their stuff is pretty good. The key is cancelling after the first shipment. I did so with no problems.

I've been careful not to jump into this too quickly. I'm inclined to think that some careful planning is in order so that I direct some of the partner miles to NWA and some to DL. I'm thinking that it's safer to make sure that I get 8 in each program than to struggle for 15 in DL.
That's precisely what I'm doing - I have one by default on each airline (DL is AmEx, NW is my emiles account). Eight on both is easy, 15 on either is almost impossible with my travel habits.

Spending on an existing card counts.
Credit Card Partners: Miles earned for purchases using your domestic or international SkyMiles Credit Card count as one eligible activity. Eligible cards include Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express; or one international co-brand SkyMiles Credit Card (HSBC Bank Brasil S.A; SkyMiles Corp Banca; SkyMiles MBNA Visa; SkyMiles Resona Visa; SkyMiles HSBC Mexico Visa; SkyMiles ScotiaBank Visa; SkyMiles Citi Visa).

Find the iTunes page and click on the link there. This passes a special tracking link to Apple. They report back to Skymilesshopping how much you bought using that link, and they post the appropriate miles back to Delta.

I can't remember if an eRewards account is "linked" to a particular airline account or if you have the option to type in an account when you redeem.
However, at least with my FF account options (e.g., Delta, Hilton, and PC), I was under the impression that I could only make one eRewards redemption every 90 days. In other words, if I've got the eRewards points, I could not redeem some for one frequent flyer program and the remainder for another frequent flyer program within a 3-month period. Does anyone have first-hand experience making multiple redemptions in a short period of time?

There are exceptions, but generally these programs don't stack -- you can't get both ebates and Skymiles. Teleflora pays the referrer a fee for sending you to their web site, but they don't want to pay two different sites.

Well, I'm not Evan, but I think I can answer your question since I've used emiles for this promo in the past.
You're not going to get credit for emiles as an 'activity' unless the miles post to your DL account. So, just signing up is not going to count. If you are religious about filling out the surveys when they are available, and take advantage of a couple of the emiles offers you might be able to get to 500 before June 22, but it's going to take more work than just signing up.

I'm no eMiles expert by any means, but I seem to recall there being an important distinction between they way eMiles was run during the last promo and the current promo.
I believe eMiles used to only post during certain "windows" of time in a given year. The last promo listed eMiles as a partner, but the points-posting "window" did not correspond to the promo period. To compensate for that mistake, eMiles apparently sent a file to the airline so that people who had any activity during the promo period got credit.
eMiles doesn't restrict redemptions to these "windows" any more, at least not for me. So I think there is a high probability that if you do not have an eMiles redemption during the promo period, you will not get credit for it this time around.

I would guess that just the purchase through skymilesshopping would get you the credit. I can't see why they would care whether you use it or not. You've spent your $2 or whatever with them, you should get the miles for that.

Paying your Amex bill does not count. Making a qualifying purchase during the promo period counts. By "qualifying purchase" I mean an Amex SkyMiles-earning purchase. IIRC, interest, late fees, cash advances, and gift cards do not earn SkyMiles.

From delta.com
Membership Rewards from American Express
Receive up to one mile per point when you transfer Membership Rewards points to miles. Transfer as few as 1,000 points to top off your account, or as many as you need for your next SkyMiles Award.

Yes. Normal charges will post monthly as one entry on your SkyMiles account. If you purchase something with your DL Amex now you have one or two billing cycles before June 22. If one were to have a billing cycle around the 23rd of the month and wait until mid-June to use their DL Amex the calendar might screw them. But if you use it soon you should have no problems.

I bought the coupons using a DL AMEX for a restaurant on the Delta Dining Program and then wound up going to that restaurant using my other credit card that I had registered with the Dining program. Bottom line: I got credit for e-miles last year with no postings to my SkyMiles account. How? read the post to the NWA forum above.
The Delta thing happened last year because: emiles standard policy at that time would only let miles be deposited to your delta account quarterly (as in 1/1, 4/1, 7/1/ and 10/1) no matter whent he deposit was earned or requested AND the required activity dates for the promotion did not include a quarterly deposit date, though the T&C's listed emiles as an eligible partner. Therefore, there was no way to earn credit for this partner. So many people complained that emiles made the statement referenced in your post and gave anyone with any activity partner activity credit. I don't think that means they will do the same thing again, and I also believe they have changed their procedure to deposit miles when requested rather than at the above quarterly marks.

(Check that the restaurants are part of the Delta Dining program and check the conditions of the coupons for each specific restaurant). I bought the coupons using a DL AMEX for a restaurant on the Delta Dining Program and then wound up going to that restaurant using my other credit card that I had registered with the Dining program. The restaurant bill was $17 minus one of the $10 restaurant.com certificates which wound up being a $7 lunch for two people. Killed 2 birds with one stone.
You are getting credit for DL Amex and SkyMiles Dining. Way to go! Help me here: without counting the Piles Of Miles promo, how many miles are you earning for this transaction of $8.20? I am guessing: 1 mile from Amex ($1.20 charged) and 3 mi/$ x $7 = 21 miles from SkyMiles Dining for a total of 22 miles? That's $8.20 for 22 miles + a nice meal! Then you add in the (potential) incremental miles with this promo and thats 2,022 miles + a nice meal! :)

Funny part is that around $0.30/mile, FTers would say it's a horrible deal.
I agree that in this case the miles are the icing on the cake. Restaurant.com rocks. ^

That is not in the list contained in post #72 (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/11631543-post72.html) so my guess is no.

Would purchasing a magazine subscription on "Magazines for Miles" count as a trasaction?
Question answered but here is a little tip - in good spirit (teach a man to fish).
Go to the URL for the T&C: https://www.delta.com/marketing/pileonmiles/ in your browser.
On a PC hit CNTL-F (control and "f" key for "find") on a Mac Command (apple key)-F. Type in the find field "magazines for miles". You will see that there are no matches on the page. That is what I did but I saw someone else answer your question. Hope this helped.

Pardon me if this was answered somewhere in this thread but... if you register for BOTH the Delta AND Northwest 25K partner miles promos, is there any restriction about earning miles twice with one partner and having it count towards both promotions? (i.e. one Avis rental that gets DL credit, 2nd Avis rental that gets NWA credit). I didn't see anything in the T&C that prevented overlap between the DL and NW promos but let me know if I'm missing anything.

You are not missing anything. They are independent promotions. So Avis can count for both.

Evan, I tried that link (also tried yesterday), but does not seem to work. I get the following error:
"We're sorry but Flight Finder Room Finder is not available in the Membership Rewards Express program. Try using Pay with Points instead for all your travel needs. With this feature, you can use points for flights on any airline with no restrictions or blackout dates!"
I also tried through AMEX website, the only Travel option I get is if I need to book the ticket using AMEX points. I cannot find any link for transferring points to miles.
Thanks anyway for the link.
Membership Rewards Express points can't be transferred to frequent flyer programs, only Membership Rewards or Membership Rewards First points can. Do you have any Amex cards other than Blue? Blue alone participates in MRE.

I ordered something at Shutterfly for a partner activity but then realized I did it through the Skymall. Will that count for 2 separate activities? If only one, which one would they count? How does that work?
I guess the further question would be, if I shop through Skymall at Shutterfly using my Delta AMEX, would that be 3 activities?
I'm confusing myself...as usual.

question 1: No, just one
question 2: skymall
question 3: it works as skymall, cuz you went thru skymall
question 4: No. it will be two activities, skymall and amex.
You can do shutterfly again, going thru the link on delta.com, and not thru skymall. It will then post as shutterfly activity, not skymall.

Thanks RedDawn. So there's no way of registering a Shutterfly partner activity if you access it through the Skymall, regardless of how many times. You have to access it through Delta.com before you'll get the activity credit. Is that right?

My credit card was recently replaced with a new number. I dined out on Saturday, at a restaurant that I didn't realize was in SM Dining, and then got around to updating my credit card with SM Dining on Sunday. Just got an email today that I had earned miles ... guess they don't run the credit card numbers through iDine right away, thank goodness. :)

They don't and are very forgiving in these matters. I've called and explained that I realized the card I used was not in the system. They added the card and credited the transaction - days after the actual dine. Great people!

Unfortunately no, I just have AMEX blue. Is there a round-about way.. for example transferring AMEX MRE points to a Hotel or other partner (Hilton/Marriott/CP etc.) and from the Hotel partner, transferring points to Delta skymiles. I only have 7000 odd points and have never used my AMEX MRE points; I thought this may be a good way to use points.
I have already used Points.com and that activity is posted as well.

I seriously doubt transfers from WP > SM or vice versa would count. NW is not a partner of DL. DL now owns them. And since there is no fee there is no incentive for DL to offer one bonus miles. Transferring SMs from one account to another SM account costs money. Converting hotel points to SMs brings DL money. Sure, we have found some super cheap qualifying activites (e.g. 30 US DMs for 1 SM at points.com) but DL's motivation is to sell SkyMiles to partners. If we have partner activity on our accounts then partners are going to have to buy more SMs from Delta. Yes, it couldn't hurt because it's free but don't count on it being a threshold partner. That would hurt.

SkyMiles subscriptions is new this year. Cheapest magazine ("American Legacy") is $10, several others under $20. No shipping for magazines!
There's an "auto-renewal" feature on magazines ordered.
I placed my order with a credit card that I'm planning on canceling within the year (my WorldPerks Visa ), so I won't be too much at risk a year from now.

I have a bunch of hotel stays coming up at Marriott, Hilton, Starwood and Holiday Inn. Unfortunately, they are all reward stays, which looks like it will not count toward promotion. Is there any way around this, like, if I were to buy a soda, or something from the gift shop would that work??

I have used Priceline for stays at all the above. Since I was bidding (opaque) I got no points for room rate and no elite benefits. However I give my membership # when checking in. Except for HI (I did not charge anything to my room), I have received points for incidentals charged to my room in all programs. Dry cleaning, restaurant, internet access, and sundries shop (when present) have all worked. Just make sure you have them charge it to your room. When you check out, if you use the DL Amex you can get credit for 2 partners (hotel + Amex) with this promo, but only for one of the hotels. DL Amex counts once only for this promo.
Edit: One more thing. You can earn hotel points with this tactic but not airline miles. So you would have to accumulate points to covert to DL SkyMiles for this to be effective. Reward stays (IIRC) don't earn any points or miles with the hotels you listed. A couple of times with Hilton & Marriott I actually got the points/miles/elite credit even though I made an opaque booking. But this is the exception and not the rule. All four chains have the same policy about opaque booking but mistakes can be made (and have been :) ). When you check in, if the clerk tells you "I'm sorry but you aren't eligible for points with your stay," simply tell them that you will still earn points for incidentals. Somehow entering in the number will sometimes cause their system to give you full credit. It has happened to me several times.

So I think there is a high probability that if you do not have an eMiles redemption during the promo period, you will not get credit for it this time around.
FWIW, here is a response from e-Miles about this question:
_______
Dear Member,
Thank you for contacting e-Miles(r) Member Services. In order to display
activity for verification purposes you will need to earn at least 500
miles and make a deposit from your e-Miles account into your frequent
flyer account.
Thank you,

Still await an answer on whether current activity will be forwarded to NWA
by June 22, even if it is not a total of 500 miles.
________
So it looks like there are conflicting T&Cs, where "activity" is ambiguous.
Combined with the notoriously slow process of accumulating 5 points per
survey, which may not be mailed out daily even if you have the setup
tuned for maximum spam, I wouldn't count on potential partner e-Miles
as a sure thing for this promo.

Here is my (e-mail) question for 1800Flowers:
I used the link to 1800Flowers at the delta.com site. I used promo code DL54 as the instructions told me for 25 SkyMiles per dollar spent. My order was $55.99 before shipping. I was expecting 56 X 25 = 1,400 SkyMiles. However the miles posted today, May 2, on my Delta SkyMiles account in the amount of 1,120. What happened to the other 280 miles?
Even if they round down to $55 I have been screwed out of some miles if they don't rectify this. Unless there is a T&C I don't know about.

Here is my take on the top 10, scratch that, 11 cheapest and/or easiest ways to get a unique partner benefit. Note that if you do all 11 you won't get credit for all 11 because those denoted with *** are lumped together with the "one activity among the following..." part of the T&C. In fact, if you do all 11 you will get 8 unique partners for an 8K bonus for this promo. Even though converting hotel points to SkyMiles is free (if you already have the points) I did not include them in this list because, well, it would take up half the list and if one does not have any/enough points to convert they most likely have to spend some unknown amount of money in order to get some hotel points. e-miles and e-rewards didn't make my list because I don't consider using either to be "easy" in any way shape or form. Blech!

By my count, your top ten will only generate 7 unique partners.
I'd move SkyMiles Clothing Care into your top 10. It has the same attributes as SkyMiles Dining (except in rare cases, you have to get in the car to get the points) and can be had for $2 (e.g., launder a shirt).

You are right my math is bad. And you are right it is cheap to get a shirt laundered. The reason why I did not move them into my top ten is the difficulty I have experienced finding a participating store anywhere near me or where I travel for work. But seeing that I mis-counted... up it goes. :D

I am unfamiliar with Thanks Again, so when I receive Evan's reply that it is tied to Sky Miles clothing Care, I checked Thanks Again, again...On Thanks Again there are numerous restaurant opportunities. They, obviously do not exist on the Sky Miles Clothing Care. Does this mean that if I get the restaurant certificate through Thanks Again, it will NOT count, only dry cleaning "action"? I am unfamiliar with Thanks Again, so when I receive Evan's reply that it is tied to Sky Miles clothing Care, I checked Thanks Again, again...On Thanks Again there are numerous restaurant opportunities. They, obviously do not exist on the Sky Miles Clothing Care. Does this mean that if I get the restaurant certificate through Thanks Again, it will NOT count, only dry cleaning "action"? Thanks, in advance...
Of course it will count. The partner is Thanks Again, and it is they who post the miles, not the individual vendor within the portal.

I'm not as positive as you are. I go to thanksagain.com/skymiles (http://thanksagain.com/skymiles) and click on "Locate Merchants", under categories Restaurants don't appear. If I go to just plain thanksagain.com (http://thanksagain.com) and try "Locate merchants" I see Restaurants as well as Restaurants - Certificates. Perhaps dining applies to other mile/point earning programs. Perhaps dining through TA competes with Rewards Network. Of the other airlines, I know US and NW use RN. However, CO dropped out of RN last year. If I go to thanksagain.com/onepass (http://thanksagain.com/onepass) and choose "Locate Merchants", the categories DO show Restaurants and Restaurant Certificates. Delta might not participate in the dining part of TA.

Just somethin' to think about.
I think we are all getting confused with these multiple offers. Thanks Again is on the NW 25k promo. It is a good substitute for the nwshopping(which is excluded on the 25k offer).
However, DL does not have Thanks Again on it's list of partners for it's 25k promo.

How do you track your promotion earnings on Delta.com? It is quite easy on NWA.com. Thanks.

However, Skymiles Clothing Care (which is administered by Thanks Again) is on the list. When I logged in under my SM CC account, it gave me the "other" shopping options. I tried ordering a restaurant.com cert, and we will see what happens.

How does the Skymiles Shopping work?
You register for Skymiles shopping, use the link to one of their merchants and then have to register with one of those merchants as well?

FAQs can be found here: http://www.skymilesshopping.com/index.php?p=faq
The bottom line is: register with SkyMilesShopping (SMS), go to the portal when you are ready to shop, enter your SkyMiles number, go to the merchant's site via the SMS portal, and buy whatever your heart desires. Do not go to other sites outside the portal before completing your purchase. If you want to make another purchase from a different merchant, go back to the SMS main page and repeat the process. No need to register with each merchant, other than to expedite future online purchases.

If any of you are Choice Privledge members, I believe a transfer from there to Delta would count as one of the Hotel partners AND they're offering a double bonus on transfers to Delta.
5,000 Choice points usually equals 1,000 miles is now 2,000 miles (from May 1-June 25, 2009)

Yes, transferring Choice points to DL counts for the POM promo. If you don't have enough time (to earn 5K CP points that is) you can opt to earn 250 SM instead of CP points for a 1-night stay - here (http://www.choicehotels.com/ires/en-US/html/AirlineMiles).
The link for the double bonus for transfering CP points to SM marlin mentioned is here (http://www.choicehotels.com/ires/en-US/html/GPNews#skymiles).

I have had a Skymiles Clothing Care (Thanks Again) account since the partner promo last year. I tried to register through the NWA portal using my WP number and a differenct CC and when I submitted the form I got the following message: [B]Your Membership Number has already been registered.[/B:(
So I am thinking that I can't earn miles from Thanks Again for both DL and NW. Is this typical?

I know from personal experience that it is possible to have both a Delta and NW "Thanks Again" account, but both have been open for a while now. Could it be that the linking of NW and Delta accounts may finally have an unintended consequence?

Other Data Points:
Using the following format (Actual date of activity, Delta transaction date (left column), Delta posting date)
Take-aways from this data: Can't say for sure, but Shutterfly may be using a ship date rather than the customer's order submission date. A late pick-up at a Clothing Care partner resulted in a transaction date of the next day. Also, don't wait until the last week of the promo to request an Ameriprise insurance quote because it may be assigned a date that would make it ineligible for the promo.

I think you are right. And it actually makes sense. I can see where they would not want to offer a sign-up bonus (currently 500 miles on nwa.com) for a current customer.
On another note... but still related to Thanks Again:
Let me run this by you guys and see if it works. Since I could not sign up again for Thanks Again with NWA I started looking for a dry cleaner at SkyMilesClothingCare.com (by Thanks Again) and I logged in with my existing account. I did notice that I could search for "off line" stores. I found a restaurant I like near where I am working this week. At Thanks Again they offered 3 miles/$ for a printable certificate but it said I must use the link on the page. So I clicked. It took me to Restaurant.com. I bought a $25 certificate for $10 and I used my NW US Bank Visa (good only on a total restaurant bill of $40+). Mind you I was logged in to my SkyMiles-earning account at Thanks Again. That restaurant is also a member of Rewards Network (formerly "SkyMiles Dining"). So here is my question. I go to this restaurant tomorrow; my meal will be at least $40 (they have a to-go pastry case that is out of this world!); I use my DL Amex to pay the difference > $40 - $25 cert + $6 tip (min.) = $21. My DL Amex is registered with Rewards Network for SkyMiles. So will this one restaurant outing earn me the following?:
10 NW WP miles ($10 cost of printable cert on line) for using my NW US Visa - 1 mile/$
30 DL SkyMiles - Thanks Again portal purchase of restaurant.com certificate - 3 miles/$
105 DL SkyMiles through Rewards Network for the final $21 bill at the table - 5 miles/$
21 DL SkyMiles for using my Delta Amex - 1 mile/$
3 unique partners for the DL Pile On The Miles promo - 1) DL Amex, 2) Rewards Network, 3)Thanks Again (a.k.a. SkyMilesClothingCare)
1 unique partner for the NW Pile On The Miles promo - NW US Bank Visa
$40 worth of food/service
Did I get this right? Sounds too good to be true for one restaurant visit.
I consider each partner activity for the promos to be worth 1K miles. So my booty would be 10 + 1,000 = 1,010 WP Miles and 30 + 105 + 21 + 3,000 = 3,156 DL SkyMiles. All for $10 + $21 = $31 :D
Have I deluded myself? (I have been known to get the math wrong... as in this thread! LOL)

I joined Shutterfly on 4/26 in preparation for doing a cheap $1 set of prints to deliver to Target. However, yesterday I got an email for $10 off an order "of any value" with some exceptions (e.g., gift certs). So, if you're patient on your Shutterfly order and wait a week or so to see if you get the same email I did, you can get something worth ~$11 and just pay $1 for it. Not sure whether it applies to shipping or whether you'll get miles credit for an $11 purchase or a $1 purchase, but the point is to just spend $1 and get a partner credit. If you get a mug or something rather than just some prints, that's a bonus.
This is in addition to the 25 free prints.

This has always worked for me (like last years NW promo) except:
1) you shouldn't get the NW partner credit for the NW visa, not a partner. And,
2) Not positive on the Thanks Again/rest.com posting correctly.
Never had a problem using a cert, getting miles with rn/idine, activity credit, etc.

Here's what I've got so far:
13. Delta Amex
21. SkyMilesShopping (iTunes) *
22. SkyMiles Dining *
39. Points.com (30 US DM=1 SM) *
42. Thanks Again (iTunes)
49. National Car Rental
77. Ameriprise Insurance quote
* already posted
Note that a 99c iTune purchase did post as 1 mile. I'll probably buy flowers to make the 8th. Since I can get to the earnings opportunities while logged into Thanks Again with my DL SM number, I'm going to presume they're valid ways to get Skymiles.

Ouch!
I just realized that my e-miles account is linked to Continental. Help! Is there any way to change that? It looks like Continental is hard-coded in as my sponsor.

no you can't change it but you can always sign up again through delta using a different email address ;)
for new accounts, you can usually make it to around the 500 mile minimum deposit threshold with the first slew of questionnaires and such.

I have a few questions on buyings songs form itunes though skymilesshopping.com
I had a credit in my account. I am assuming a purchase is fine?...my account credit went down, I did not buy a song using my credit card!
How long does it take for itunes to post the miles in our Skymiles accounts?

I did exactly that (except for an iPhone app) and it worked fine and I got my 2 miles.
