I need to book a quick trip from BUR (or LAX) to LAS for May 8 - 10 ... hotel and airfare. My friends are staying at Mandalay Bay but all the rates I've been able to uncover are crazy ($300+/nt) so I'm prob going to be at Luxor, which is "just" next door. Ok, well, as "next door" as one can be to another megacasino. ;-)
I'm posting just to be sure I'm not missing any obvious deals/tricks here... I am thinking about the fact that my AmEx Gold is running a double points promotion right now, and sometimes AmEx has member deals, too... plus UAL running a double EQM program right now-- though I think Southwest is going to end up being cheaper, and for that few miles, even doubled, it's not worth it to pay the premium.
Any tips? Suggestions for finding the best deal? Something I haven't thought of? So far the only "break" I've found is that booking a vacation package at Luxor (room + SWA r/t airfare) gives me a ~$75 discount off booking the room + SWA ticket separately. Right now, that seems to be my best option.
I'd love to get a room at Mandalay Bay, but when the Luxor room works out to ~$110/night on that vacation package, it's awfully hard to make a case for paying MB's $300/night prices (can't find anything lower than that).
Thanks for any ideas--
Eric
