Greetings all! I am just back from a short weekend in Vegas, which was a spur of the moment trip. I booked the Tropicana for $50 on the first night, which I was quite happy with. However, in light of my girlfriend's dislike for the (lack of) cleanliness of its bathroom, I opted to move up market for the second night.

I tried PL up to $180, before finally grabbing a room at the MGM (directly) for $230. It was my first time there since my bachelor party era, which also preceded my entry in the resort development business.

On the one hand, I can say that I shouldn't expect too much for that $230 during nights in which the Sahara is fetching $150. On the other hand, knowing that the same coin is enough to fetch jacuzzi suite+ at the Trop gave me reason to be critical.

Cutting to the chase:

-box spring was covered with vomit
-employees were rude/clueless

I feel compelled to admit that the pool scene was pretty cool, but that didn't make up for the fact that the hotel doesn't offer any more than a functional bed and reasonably clean bathroom.

Those 100,000+ conventioneers attending the National Association of Broadcasters show do have a way of driving prices up. ;)

OUCH... could never see paying $230 for a room in Vegas..... just not in it long enough to get the value.

Ugh.... vomit? I do hope you got a new room... and some type of comp.

I don't think that your experience is typical of the MGM. My wife and I stay there about monthly and the rooms are mid-market but clean and OK.

My guess is that with the Vegas occupancy rate being down so far they didn't have the staff to properly deal with NAB.

I booked rooms there for August. Not too familliar with rooms there and have questions about room prefs of people who have stayed there recently. I currently have a West Tower room, but had option on the Grand Tower room, or some of the lower end suites. Any ideas?

Did you mean a "West Wing" room? If so, I suggest doing some homework on the Web. Those are the former dungeon rooms that they've prettied up and try to sell for a premium. Many people, myself included, prefer a regular old room. My experience is that lower-end "suites" aren't true suites but just larger rooms, sometimes with outdated furnishings.

Avoid the West Wing. You'll waste half your trip walking to and from the elevators. That and the rooms are actually smaller.

The couch in our bungalow suite had more than a few mystery stains on it. Never again.
