i can tell you that alamo rents the prius as a midsize at LAX, as i just rented one yesterday.

in terms of the prius itself, i rented it because i own one and it's my favorite car. i've also driven it across the country. but in terms of creature comforts, the prius is more comparable to a corolla. if you're driving on a bumpy road, you will definitely feel it. it's a small sacrifice for 50-60 mpg!

Does anyone know if they consider a prius as a midsize hybrid car at ALAMO in Vegas? Has anyone ever rented any other hybrids other than a prius since Jan 2009? I am planning to do a 1500 mile road trip through the various parks in CA and was wondering if a PRIUS is a satisfying ride for long distance travel. I really like the avalon and is a wonderful long distance cruiser. Is a prius as good? (I think this is an obvious answer but I would really appreciate anyone's opinion) With the Gas prices slightly more affordable at 2.10 to 2.2 with a premium car.:(

Hybrids are a seperate category at Alamo/National. There are very few of them and they are NOT part of the standard inventory. They carry a hefty daily price premium. I routinely take a Prius up to Saint George, Utah and points further north without any issues.

OTOH, Hertz has plenty and will gladly upsell at the POS or free if you are a Gold member with a Intermediate reservation.
