try checking the member since date on the front of your CARD ;-)

You probably will get a much quicker response then here if you would just use online customer service or call amex.

Keep in mind that the charge shows up on the last day of the billing cycle, just before the bill prints. And you can probably use it for another couple weeks (until the bill would arrive) and then call to cancel if desired after you "notice it on the bill."

I read somewhere that if I was to downgrade/cancel after payment of my renewal fee, they would refund my membership, but it would be prorated. Is this true? If I was to downgrade from platinum to gold, would my membership points transfer? Renewal fee came on my last bill, but I have not paid the bill yet, and I am strongly considering downgrading to gold. Thanks.

Yes, you keep the same MR account; it isn't even a transfer, it is just the same account.

Really? Because on another thread you seem to imply (albeit jokingly) that you would trade a $450 annual fee for a $2500 annual fee?

And yet on another thread sometime ago, I distinctly recall you stating that you "very rarely travel."

Am I missing something?

lol, well id like the black card for the obviously stupid reason of just wanting it. as for my travel, i dont travel often, but when i do, it comes in handy, SPG gold membership got my family upgrades at a hotel for a wedding, airport club access was nice for a layover on my NYC trip, and theres probably gonna be a few more trips this year with my family where it could come in handy. however overall with money being the way it is these days, paying $500 for these perks isnt quite as easy as it was last year.

If you know that you're going to be traveling and can schedule it all on the same airline just buy a membership to that club. It will be cheaper than the card. Your SPG will last until next year so no need to keep it just for that either.
