Got this in an email last night. Did a search and didn't find it previously posted and SanDiego1K didn't recognize it either.
So here it is, SPG, pay 1 night predetermined rate, second and third night pay a rate equal to your birth year. Make sure to look at the fine print, because at some hotels it is birth year + $100. In that case it might not be a better deal than one could get from another promo. Anyway, maybe this will help somebody out.
Moderators, feel free to move this to anywhere in the Starwood forum you please.:)

Looks like a continuation of last year's promo. PROMO: Rates equal to your birth year til Dec 30 2008 (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/starwood-preferred-guest/834761-promo-rates-equal-your-birth-year-til-dec-30-2008-a.html)
I did a search for my upcoming stay at the W Scottsdale and it included a studio suite for $399 for the first night. So it looks like this would be a good deal for a 3 night stay.

Pay Rates Equal to Your Birth Year! We're celebrating the year you were born. With this special offer for two or three night stays, you'll receive rates equal to your birth year!
First night: rate varies by property
Second or third night: rates equal to your birth year!
(If you were born in 1948, you'll receive your 2nd and 3rd nights at $48!*)
Rates for second and third night stays will be confirmed at check-in upon presentation of valid ID

Illegal how? I don't know of any states where a minor can legally rent a hotel room.
If one was to argue that it unfairly provides cheaper rates to older people that were born in say 1930, than it would aslo have to be illegal to offer any kind of senior citizen or AARP discounts.
Not sure if it is illegal anywhere, but I can only imagine that the legal stiffs at Starwood would have vetted this promo before they put it out.

This is a VERY appealing promo ^
BUT you need to suss out the properties that will do a decent first night rate and then give you nights 2 and three at just your 2 digit birth year.
And It is especially appealing if you can do three nights in one property.Brought down an upcoming stay in Montreal to under $110 cad a night for the Sheraton-which has a very nice lounge.
BUT the new promo coming up next month promotes hotel hopping

It is a promotional offer, i.e. a discount, you can always pay the rack rate which is the listed price.

I think it is discrimination but one of those issues where everybody just looks the other way, as everyone does with senior rates out of respect to seniors. It is mostly fun, after all, in this case.
AARP and AAA rates are not discriminatory because they require memberships but a price based solely on age, as far as I know, is illegal in this country.

They had a similar promo at Taj hotels in India a few years ago where the discount was based on your age for every night of your stay, for pensioners only - I think it was for something like celebrating independence.....but instead of paying your year of birth, the discount was your age. My father who was in his 70s received a 70-something per cent discount; his brother-in-law was aged 86, so 86% discount; my elderly aunt received a 92% discount. They all had a pleasant trip away together.

Just did the Birth Year promo with the parents in the Westin Imagine Orlando
$169 for first night then $44 for the next two nights for one room and $28 for the next two nights in the other room.
Very cool -
There was an option to upgrade to a 1 bed suite for $50 extra per night and $100 for a two bed suite.
So we took two 2 bed suites for 3 nights.
Very good value 3 day break :)
Great way to sleep 6 people over 4 rooms.

When you go in through the link provided, it uses Rate Plan PAYAGE. I've noticed that this can produce different results from using Promo Code NBR. For example, take the Sheraton Sonoma for 29-31 August. I got $149 with PAYAGE and $139 with NBR.
I also notice that the rate they quote does not take the birth year into account. Is that just an IT bug? For example, my rate shows $139 + $139 instead of $139 + $xx. The Rate Plan description does give the correct information. Can I assume it will all be correct when I check out?

In this case, the older you are, the better it is cause those born in the 40's pay less than those born in the 70's. And age discrimination is USUALLY about older people getting the short end of the stick.

Next to some of the prior Stay 2 get 1 free promos (which we cashed in for rooms at the Westin Whistler) this is probably one of the best ever for me.
Stayed 3 nights at Westin Michigan Ave Chicago $169 + 63 + 63 and just booked 3 nights at Sheraton Boston $189 + 63 + 63.
Plus earned a free night through the Stay 2 promo. ^
As for the promo rates being jacked up I have actually found the opposite. For example at the Sheraton I was quoted a rate of $233 non-ref for the same nights and a convention rate of $275/nt

Another trick for finding the different promos is to go to a property's page and click on Hotel Deals. That usually has all the standard offerings (AAA, 2x-3x-4x points, etc.) and sometimes you will find even better deals like Breakfast for 2 and the such.
Like with most hotel websites, you end up doing many searches to find the best rate. I end up doing a no-thrills, AAA, and SET at the very least. If I've focused on a particular property then looking at their Hotel Deals too. Makes me appreciate the days of travel agents: One call, one question, DONE!

Welcome to FlyerTalk, CAMPBELL80!
I'm pretty sure that you can use it as many times as you want at any property as long as you're not using it for consecutive (back-to-back) reservations at the same property. I would guess that some (most?) properties would probably allow you to use it for consecutive reservations, though the T&Cs officially say it's not allowed.
A few weeks ago, this offered the most favorable refundable rate that I could find for the Sheraton North Charleston (aside from a Cat2 weekend award for just 3K).
Unfortunately, this promo also always makes me feel like I'm being ripped off since they're perfectly willing to offer a better rate to anyone that is older than me. I'd rather pay my birth DAY than my birth YEAR! :p

For those that've used the promo, is there an 'extra guest charge' on top of the birthyear days (i.e., if more than two people are staying in a room)? I'm hoping that some of the junior suites that are popping up with the rate and can sleep up to five would be a great deal.

This is totally up to each hotel. In the rate T&Cs, it sometimes will say. Do the rate "Terms & Details" specify anything about charges for additional persons? Can you get spg.com to offer the rate when you select 4 adults? Is it the same price as if you select 1 or 2 adults?
OT for minor amusement: This is a rate T&C that I've never noticed before on any other rate:

This is a great promo, especially for us "seniors," when you can find a participating hotel and dates. Obviously, like all promos, there are restrictions on it.
I've had one very well-priced 3-day stay on it several months ago, and have booked another upcoming one (the upcoming one even includes lounge access!). The first night is generally at a BAR ("Best Available Rate," i.e., the best rate generally available to the public with no special affiliations/discounts). I haven't seen the first night be at a Rack rate, but then, I've only searched a few hotels/dates.
I agree with the others who said that the list of available rooms sometimes differs between the "promo code" NBR and the "rate plan" PAYAGE. It is always worthwhile to check under both (I found the exec lounge room availability under one but not the other).
However, I really object to the misleading thread title -- NO WAY is it a "birthday" promo and Starwood doesn't call it that. It is the "Pay Your Birth Year" or just "Birth Year" promo. Some people have been misled by the "Birthday" designation into thinking that the promo is only available on the customer's birthday -- not so!!!

Isn't there an existing thread about this promo? This puppy has been around for years.
all i can say from my experience that for the hotels/dates i checked it was not the best deal... because of the inflated first night. It makes a difference of course if u stay 2 nights or 3 nights and it varies by the hotel.
I'm happy it is working out for you guys =)

would be nice if there was a promotion based on the actual age, not the birth year, right? lolol

It is based on actual age. It's just an inverse relationship...

yes, I understand. but for us, who are born is 1984, promo where we pay $26 would be ideal vs. the actual birth year of $84 :)

so much more money we'd be able to add to retirement accounts :)

If you can find it (and if you're old enough), it can be good. They usually jack up the first night rate, but the discount often makes up for it.
I dunno.
Playing around with a trip to SAT.
Born in 1959.
Lowest Standard Rate at the Gunter is $199.
AAA $169.
First night on this promo, $139. Only valid for a two night stay. Still a pretty sweet deal at this property.

Thats indeed a sweet deal. you get your first night at $139 and your second night for $59. usually your 3rd night will be $59 as well but may be this property has 2 nights restriction for this promo.

I'm planning a trip to LA next month, exactly one month from today, and the birth rate is unavailable at every hotel I checked! I was born in 1952 and so a $52 rate for the second night would have been awesome. I'm really disappointed with Starwood this time around.:(

Relatively few hotels participate in this rate plan.

I just noticed a great typo on this page. They have both the United States and the Untied States (which apparently only consists of Ohio).

Are they having this rate in 2012? I love this promo and have used it for the past several years, but the promo page terms say through Dec. 2011. I have been unable to book it in 2012 in the few hotels I've tried.

Last week I was able to use the birth rate offer to book a room in Indianapolis next Spring.

I booked a room at the Sheraton Gunter in SAT using the birth year rate for three nights (no problem). When I tried to apply my suite night upgrades (yes, I have more than enough), it came up that the rate does not qualify. Could not find anything about that in the T&C on either the rate terms or suite night terms. Can you clarify? Also do all three nights count toward prefered qualifying, promotional credit and points?

I can't answer the question about suite nights but i can tell you that in my experience, the birthyear rate is a qualifying rate. i've used it a few times and always received points and stay/night credits.
i'm surprised that the suite nights don't work. i would give SPG a call. those upgrade certs should work on anything i thought.

Used earlier this year at Fairfax WDC - great rate @ great location.
I noticed that after my booking the promo rate offered on future bookings was now birth-year + $100, which was actually higher than the lowest available rate. It does seem that the # of hotels and conditions become less beneficial every year. But still a good deal if they have it at your property.
The other awesome thing is that you get full points and stay credits, so it's a good alternative to points+cash awards.

Has the Starwood BirthYear rate ended?
Yesterday I gathered research to write a blog post about the Starwood Birth Year rate. I researched several hotels and did a rate analysis of Birth Year to 3rd night free for California hotels.
Today, September 1, 2012 the birth year link loads a blank page?

Saturday technical work on Starwood Hotels websites?
Or did Birth Year rate promotion end yesterday?

My guess is that it's a glitch. I believe there are a couple of promo codes for the birth year rate you can enter when searching for an individual property's availability; PAYAGE and NBR are two of them. I was still able to pull up the birth year rate for a hotel I've used in the past. It's certainly easier to search for availability in one place as the old page would allow, but I bet it will come back sooner or later.

Has the Starwood BirthYear rate ended?
I have used the birth year rate very often. I still see it available at the Pasadena Sheraton, a hotel that i go to often.
Go to starwood's website, find your hotel, and then choose "offers." On the list that shows, there may be the birth year rate offer and a "reserve now" button. I just checked it and there is availability until the end of the year.
An interesting thing is that the rate no longer seems to be prepaid as the conditions show the rate as cancellable until the day before arrival and it is also no longer restricted to arrivals on certain days of the week (at least at this hotel).

The Birth Year rate webpage was down for September 1 and then came back online September 2.
I hate it when things like that happen just as I am preparing to write an article.
Here is my Starwood Birth Year Rate Analysis (http://boardingarea.com/blogs/loyaltytraveler/2012/09/02/starwood-pay-your-birth-year-rate-analysis/) showing the value of this special rate offer.

I got the birthday rate email, but when I try to book on the website it shows me the same rate for all 3 nights. does this happen for anyone else? I do not want to book and then be charged for all 3 nights at full rate.

Rate will show same but a check in you have to show proof of birthday and the hotel will then adjust the rate (so it says in the small print)
