It's been $179 all in for about a week now - and was as low as $139 all in several days ago. jurisdr Apr 13, 09, 2:56 pm Argh, I missed the $139, but $179 is still a good fare. EXPflyer1 Apr 13, 09, 6:43 pm Wow, I've been paying 239 for the BOS/SFO runs but just put a LAX run on hold. I don't really need it but what the hell. I sure wish I had waited for these prices! By my math, if you are PLT 10 RT runs at 179.20 each nets you EXP and 208,880 RDM at .0086 cpm! Not bad at all! And if you are going from BOS you can do it all overnight and not miss a day at work! ^^^ brp Apr 13, 09, 7:13 pm Doesn't seem to be happening on weekends in May/June. Not bad fares, but closer to $300. Since we have to come from SJC (or SFO) that adds a bit as well. Cheers. thecleave Apr 13, 09, 7:17 pm I did find one BOS-LAX on 5/16. GUWonder Apr 14, 09, 1:32 am Does it work LAX-BOS and on a "O" fare? Non-stop of course. Yes that works. For more miles -- redeemable and status -- you may probably price LAX-SFO-BOS at or near the same fare too. ethang801 Apr 14, 09, 8:19 am is it possible to find the $139 fares anymore or are they all gone? vxmike Apr 14, 09, 10:53 am Cheapest I see is $199 AI here. I'm actually thinking about taking a week off work in May and doing 5 or 6 of these in a row. I'd have to drive from DTW though since the cost of a short positioning flight from DTW to BOS costs more than a transcon! Boraxo Apr 14, 09, 12:09 pm I see $109 each way for October. Unfortunately no UA match, though the differential washes out if you plan to upgrade with miles due to AA's $50 "co-pay" vxmike Apr 14, 09, 2:32 pm Got it all lined up....six consecutive BOS-California RTs with another AA positioning flight. Also need a $117 positioning flight on DL for which I'll use part of my $2,800 DL credit from the last TYP fixed redemption. 117.4K RDM 72.8K EQM $1460 Got everything reserved until tomorrow night. Just gotta decide whether or not to do it...borders on insanity but I don't think a better deal will come along this year. I *AM* quite bored with a reduced workload due to the economy, so I'm thinking why not? I can sleep on the red eyes, watch DVDs and read during the daytime transcon, and spend my extra eight hours during the afternoon surfing the net at the lounge in LAX/SFO and drinking. Can't be too bad, right? Could I buy a MSP-BOS ticket that sandwiches around my BOS-LAX runs, or is that against rules? Thanks My impression was you received the 3x as long as you take a non stop flight from BOS to the list of 3x cities. Doesn't matter if it's O/W or attached to other flights. I found that sandwiching the positioning flights often gets you a better price than buying everything separately. Also better protection in case you miss a connection and more segments are on the same PNR. I just bought my massive May run tonight. I had to pull the trigger on one BOS-LAX today I had on hold but the rest is all on hold from today until tomorrow night while I make some decisions and see if prices change in the morning. WingedWorldExplorer Apr 16, 09, 10:06 am I just returned on the red eye four hours ago. Both the flight yesterday afternoon and the overnight were 100 % full. This year, with this promotion, I may come pretty close to making it about half way through the year. I just hope there are not too many of us nuts doing this. DNPierson1 Apr 16, 09, 9:03 pm here's my schedule, which started today with a grand total of 0 miles in my AAdvantage account (I used to be a United person). I guess I need to add two more of these BOS-LAX runs... also going one way EWR-DUB for $166 at the end of May for another ~6000 miles. I really want to get EXP done before DEQM ends. Ready2Go Apr 16, 09, 9:09 pm 5/6 BOS LAX RT 10422 BOS-LAX RT will yield 10,444 with DBEQM. DNPierson1 Apr 17, 09, 7:34 am Thx ReadyToGo, those numbers are all using the mileage calculator from WebFlyer.com-do you know a more reliable site? rabble Apr 17, 09, 8:04 am I you're doing that many runs you might as well do the platinum challenge so you get PLT a little faster and then start earning double miles. Ready2Go Apr 17, 09, 11:00 am Thx ReadyToGo, those numbers are all using the mileage calculator from WebFlyer.com-do you know a more reliable site? No; I just fly to BOS a lot, and I know AA credits it as 2611. (I also know it credits LAX-OGG as 2486, so your BOS-LAX-OGG with DBEQM will be 10,194 EQM each way.) DNPierson1 Apr 17, 09, 11:03 am I you're doing that many runs you might as well do the platinum challenge so you get PLT a little faster and then start earning double miles. Thanks for the suggestion.. would others agree with this? I was under the impression that it didn't make sense because the initial miles to complete the challenge wouldn't clear fast enough to make a difference on the miles from later flights. Also, all these transcon flights are in Q, which only rates at .5 points per mile... so by my calculations, it would take 4 transcons to reach the 10,000. You obviously can't apply past flights to challenges, so yesterday's DCA-MIA is out. MIA-MSY is Q. (~330 points) MSY-ORD-BOS is in G (1700 points) So in my case, I have 2000 points lined up before I get to Boston. I would then need to wait until my third transcon flight (May 8th) to have enough qualifying points for the platinum challenge... but they wouldn't post until later, so I wouldn't enjoy the benefits until the 12th (or possibly later). Any thoughts? DNPierson1 Apr 17, 09, 11:04 am No; I just fly to BOS a lot, and I know AA credits it as 2611. Originally I had thought no b/c I incorrectly assumed each flight would earn 2x EQM "real time" and would get me to PLT almost as quickly as a challenge with 2x EQM versus .5x Q-Points. Now I think that assumption is wrong, so a PLT challenge makes sense. I do believe the PLT mileage bonus begins accruing on the final flight which earns you the challenge. best Apr 17, 09, 11:20 pm DNP---amazing runs ! I wouldn't bother. If you have no flights prior to what is listed (and I assume you don't), and if all these flights are in deep discount fare classes, then you would satisfy the challenge on 5/7. Your Platinum status would likely post between your 5/11 run and your 5/19 run, so 5/19 and the domestic portion of your DUB flight would be the only benefit. There is a slight chance that Platinum status would post the night before your 5/11 run, but chances of getting upgrades that morning are fairly small. There is also a substantial chance that if you did this, your upgrade requests for 5/19 and the domestic part of the DUB flight would not clear. In that case, you would have spent $150 for one day's lounge access on your DUB flight, which you could buy for $50. Six straight days flying over 5000 BIS miles per day is a lot. Try finding reasonable discounted First Class (A) fares and you can meet the challenge in a couple of days. Check the "airports within 90 miles" box. I'm running SAN-SJC-DFW-FLL-DFW-SJC-SAN this week for 8,924 EQP at only $866. Even less from ONT but I need the short backtracking AE flights to get me over the top. That will get my PLT back for better seat selection and periodic UGs on my marathon LAX/SFO-BOS EXP runs the next three weeks. best Apr 18, 09, 12:38 pm Have you called AA to sign up for it? StrandedinSC Apr 18, 09, 1:12 pm No, because I had figured that it didn't make any sense because of the limited time between flights (ie, no time for the miles to post)... AA's system is smart enough to know the flight you hit a PLT challenge on, and give you 100% bonus miles for the actual flight you hit it on, and all others that you actually fly after that. For in-plane benefits- upgrades, lounges, posting matters. For mileage accumulation, posting is meaningless. It catches itself when the miles post. Thanks Stranded-can anyone else confirm? azepine00 Apr 18, 09, 2:21 pm Thanks Stranded-can anyone else confirm? You'll certainly get plt bonus for the flight that completes you challenge. It will post automatically together with the flight miles. Obviously all flights after qualifying will earn plat bonus and if for whatever reason they don't post correctly a call to AA can fix that. Since you have appr 30K of flying after qualification (assuming going for exp withing deqm timeframe) you'll be making appr 24K extra RDM miles if you sign up for plat challenge. You'll also get 4 extra stickers. (if numbers look strange to you remember that you are gonna cross gold at 25K even without any challenge so the difference should be calculated against that benchmark) A good deal for $150 IMO. As long as you make the LAX-OGG (AA 161) flight, it should be OK as your outbound OGG-LAX (AA 14) flight is the same equipment as our inbound LAX-OGG. So any delay on the inbound LAX-OGG will delay the outbound... it won't leave without you. Just make sure to OLCI or kiosk check-in for your 5/19 OGG-LAX before you leave the mainland... so you don't miss the check-in deadline if the inbound LAX-OGG is delayed. What's the worst case scenario? Could I potentially lose the OGG>LAX>BOS return? Any delay anywhere could muck things up but a 2.5 hour connection time is reasonably safe most days. The key is your BOS-LAX flight. I would show up at BOS a little early just to make sure the inbound is on time, as there are numerous other one-stop (11:05A-3:55P) or connection options (9:00A BOS-SFO would still earn Triple miles) that would still get you to LAX in time... should things go south on the 11:10A BOS-LAX departure. If you miss the LAX-OGG flight and thus miss your OGG-LAX flight back, then you're at AA's mercy and you'll need to find an understanding agent to get you on alternative flights to complete the trip at no additional cost.
