I've got an overnight in Orlando coming up with a 10am Saturday departure, and want to stay somewhere within walking distance of the Cricketers Arms in? at? International Drive. Can anyone give me any recommendations or some kind of idea of the geography of the area?

Also looking the weekend before to get from Orlando to Tampa, and guess a rental car is probably my best / only option. Is that correct?

Thanks in advance.

If you are referring to the Cricketers Arms Pub, it is in the Festival Bay Mall, near the north end of I-drive. International Drive is a 10 mile long tourist strip, although the southern half is not fully developed. The area around Festival Bay is mostly outlet malls, with a few restaurants. There are a lot of hotels on I-drive, starting about a mile south of Festival Bay, near the Wet 'n Wild (water park) area and south from there. I did find a couple of places about 1/2 mile away, I don't know anything about them but here are their Trip Advisor pages. I think they are both timeshares that do some rental business:
Orlando Sunshine Resort (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g34515-d120238-Reviews-Orlando_s_Sunshine_Resort-Orlando_Florida.html)
Orlando International Resort Club (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g34515-d653536-Reviews-Orlando_International_Resort_Club-Orlando_Florida.html)

There is a trolley (http://www.internationaldriveorlando.com/iRideTrolley/index.asp)that runs up and down I-drive, but it stops at 10:30, so that might not be of too much help to you.

Public transportation in Florida is pretty minimal, so a rental car is probably your best option for the Tampa to Orlando trip. The other option would be the Greyhound bus, but that would probably be from downtown to downtown, and you would still have to get to/from the bus terminal at each end.

OK, thanks for that :)

I may just forget the Cricketer's Arms plan then, and having now had a better look at an area map maybe I will just stay in a hotel out East in the airport precinct and get a room plan with dinner included ...

kiwibigdave,

If you stay near the Orlando Airport (MCO), there are plenty of restaurants within a very easy walk.

Need suggestions?
