Online Travel Booking and Bidding Agencies - Expedia flight below minimum connection time

I booked a flight on Expedia a few days ago and have just realised that my connection time in SFO is 26 minutes. As far as I know, for United, the minimum is 30 minutes.
I phoned Expedia and they won't change it ... they say it is my fault that I didn't check the minimum connection times. They're probably correct that I should have been more careful.
I'm now left with a couple of options:
1) Pay to have the flight changed (Expedia were kind enough to let me do this for $180)
2) Rebook a completely new flight (about $120)
3) Hope that 26 minutes is enough time to make the connection (I'm not checking baggage and my seat is right near the front of the plane).
If I do miss the connection, what are my chances of UA allowing me onto the next flight without having to buy a new ticket?
I'm guessing that Expedia won't be getting my bookings in future

Did you search and book a multi-segment itinerary? If Expedia showed the connection on their site when you pulled up an itinerary just by including origination and destination points, I would be surprised that is possible.
Where are you going from/to? Or what are the flight numbers? Often the MCT is based on specific flight numbers.
If you forced the connection, I can't see how you can blame Expedia.

I honestly can't remember whether I forced the connection or not ... but since it is something I do do when hunting for cheap fares, I'll have to assume that messed up :(
Still, the flight looks relatively empty at the moment, so there is a chance I can get a confirmed standby / standby for an earlier flight.

If you go to Expedia now and enter your origin/destination search (not point to point) does the 26-min connection display for your travel date? If so, then pick up the phone and call Expedia and have them bring it up to see for themselves. I would think they would have some responsbility here. But as FTI said, if it doesn't display as a connection, then any responsibility lies on your shoulder. Good Luck!
