Qatar Airways Privilege Club - US Partner QR CXLD Flight-How do I Get Miles?

The last two days have been a nightmare. Last Oct, I booked BNE-SIN-DOH-CPT/-JNB-DOH-SIN-BNE on QR ticket stock with BNE-SIN on SQ. So far this is what happened.

1. BNE-SIN SQ -perfect flight, on-time and posted to US DM in less than 24 hours.

2. SIN-DOH QR cancelled flight for reasons they wouldn't disclose but other people who know this route said it was likely due to load factor which I believe because the flight had heaps of seats when I went to choose seats. No actual QR staff came to SIN, they had Changi check-in staff reroute everyone on EK to DXB where they planned to shuttle everyone to DOH on QR and onwards. This was fine for people going to Europe or other Middle Eastern countries as there are plenty of flights. For people going to South Africa, there is only the one flight and if you miss it, you are stuck. They booked 3 pax (me, husband, one other man) SIN-DXB-CPT on EK. EK is NOT a US partner. I was begging the Changi check in staff to route us on SQ/SA SIN-JNB-CPT but they refused and said QR told them to put everyone on EK.

3. SIN-DXB EK flight was 4 hours late causing us to miss the ONE flight DXB-CPT. Flight arrived in DXB 0930. DXB-CPT left 0830. There were two extra flights DXB-JNB one at 1015 which we could have caught because we only had carry-ons but the other man had checked bags. He was going home and not in a huge hurry anyways. EK ground staff wasted time and wouldn't put me and hubby on the 1015 flight. They could have if they had radioed the gate and we were ready to run. So they put us on the 1430 flight to JNB.

4. Arrived JNB 2045, too late to get last flight to CPT. Luckily I cxld the first night with Starwood so we weren't charged for that night in CPT. QR ground staff put us up in a JNB conference hotel with shuttle and put us on the first flight to CPT at 0600 as we had Robben Island bookings at 0900 (which we made by the skin of our teeth and a fast taxi drive (public holiday-no traffic).

OK this is what I need help with from experts:

1. How do I get the miles we would have gotten from QR SIN-DOH-CPT? This a LOT of miles and they gave us very poor ground service in SIN, we would have made the SIN-JNB flight if they had acted professionally. We need those miles for next year's trip.

2. Can I get any other compensation from QR based on poor service and they didn't get us to CPT until 15 hours later than we had booked?

I am on internet cafes so will be checking in periodically. Please tell me how to get these miles! SIN-DOH-CPT is 8490 miles all up.

So ticket was QR, metal supposed to be QR (on the missing flight) and you supposedly wanted to credit US for miles?

I don't think this is US but QR issue and should be in their forum.

If any partner carrier's flight is canceled, the following will apply:
If you are rescheduled on US Airways or a partner carrier, you will receive credit for the itinerary flown. If you are rescheduled on a non-partner carrier, you will not receive credit.

Sorry, it doesn't appear you will get US miles

You can write to the DM service center and tell them your situation. You may get lucky and theyll credit you the miles on the flight that got xld.

Unfortunately you aren't entitled to any miles.

If a partner cancels a flight and puts you on a carrier that is a non-US partner, you are out of luck.

That being said, you can always try following up with both Qatar and US and pleading your case. But the rules are stacked against you.

You may want to consider sending in your BPs from EK to United:

http://www.united.com/page/article/0,,2152,00.html

They'll give you miles for flying EK. Granted you seem to be banking US miles and not UA, however having some miles somewhere from that trip is better than no miles at all.

Tiki - I think the FTers who have responded have done a good job of outlining your options, which are to contact both US Airways and Qatar to request "original routing credit". US will likely say they can do nothing since they did not operate any of the flights nor issue the ticket. QR is likely to be the only entity that can offer any resolution to this, but you may find it exceedingly difficult.

For that reason, I'm going to move this thread over to the QR forum to see if anyone can better guide you as to how to follow-up with QR.

Good luck!

I would write a letter to QR asking for credit for the original routing. You might be lucky. However, I would rather expect them to ignore your request.

1. You may be out of luck there. Unless you are Privilege Members, then QR may be sympathetic and give you miles for the EK flight. Otherwise I'd agree with other FTers here and ask for miles to be credited to UA. You may try to write to US Airways and ask them to be sympathetic to your plight and credit the miles to you even though you're not on a partner. When flights are cancelled, it is the call of the airlines on who to put you on.

2. No. Its not poor service. They at least rerouted you and when delayed, housed you. I wouldn't cite the issue as QR cancelled the flight due to poor loads. Chances are that the inbound flight was very delayed. DOH airport is infamous for fog and when that happens, a ripple effect occurs.

The airport wasn't fogged, the plane was in JKT and supposed to come to SIN before DOH but for some reason they didn't want to fly to SIN.

The poor service is due to lack of QR reps (as opposed to SIN check in agents) who are empowered to solve problems. They made a blanket decision based on the majority of pax who were connecting in DOH to Europe and the 3 pax (me, husband and another man) going to South Africa got shafted and didn't reach our destination until 17 hours later then we expected to. I understand this happening on LCCs but not what I expect from an award winning "5 Star Airline", I would expect them to go the extra mile to deliver excellent customer service and have at least one staff member who is empowered to solve problems on hand during all ground procedures. There were options that would have resulted in us arriving in CPT within 2 hours of original time but they wouldn't consider these options as they didn't want to do the extra paperwork. Everyone got some kind of group FIM to get us to DXB on EK, then issued individual FIMs to our destinations. They tried to group us with the other man going to CPT but in JNB I insisted on our own FIM. The onboard service was OK but no where near SQ's economy.

On the return, I thought I had taken all precautions and monitored the flight status from 3 days prior to departure. I also did online check in and printed boarding passes. We had seats 23 J/K. They reprinted the boarding passes at the airport when they took the bags and I didn't notice until after we were on the plane that we had been switched to 41 J/K (last row in Y and seats don't recline at all). The flight was full and miserable. There is a reason I book trips 6 months in advance and I don't expect to be shoved into the worst seat on the plane. The pax who were sitting in 23 J/K were just another middle-aged couple like us, not travelling with children they needed to be near and no reason they should have had the power to take over our seats when THEY could have been put into 41 J/K.

I tried to sort this out in DOH but the main office was closed on Fri/Sat except for ticket offices and (surprise, surprise) no CS people empowered to solve our problems. They did put a note in the PNR to airport control to not switch our seats without asking us. I was shooting for a comped upgrade to J as compensation for all the trouble QR caused us on this whole trip but (yup you guessed it) despite seats being free in J no one was empowered to upgrade us at the airport. All they will do is verbally apologize and give you a customer feedback card and we all know which file THOSE end up in!

The onboard service is OK but the ground service is the worst I have ever seen ANYWHERE!

As far as the miles are concerned, I want them credited to US Dividend Miles, the partner airline and as far as I know, QR doesn't do this, US does. 3 out of 6 segments posted automatically, we are still missing 3 segments.

US will have visibility to those segments that you fly in there partner airlines so that is why those posted automatically to your US miles account. As indicated by lot of people in this forum you can take it up with QR for the miles.

I was begging the Changi check in staff to route us on SQ/SA SIN-JNB-CPT but they refused and said QR told them to put everyone on EK.
[QUOTE=Tiki;11562968]
QR might have had interline arrangement with EK only so even though there maybe a direct option they will go with only with there interline partner.
