I couldn't find any good old threads about seating, even after playing with google..

On the a330, the seat map shows 7 as the front row of Y. Is this a good or bad bulkhead row?

Would you choose 7C for a bulkhead aisle, or would you choose 9B in the hopes that 9A remains open?

This all becomes moot if a GoEnvoy is magically available on the red-eye.

No personal experience here OK.. but with that caveat:

Seatguru (which I have found reasonably reliable) shows row 6 at the front of Y.. but notes no advance selection can be made/ first in at the airport / not on seatmaps until 24 hours before/ may be used for infants etc

10 A/H are "missing a window" apparently.. maybe a better chance of those staying empty?????

Given the notes about underseat equipment boxes I'd definitely go for a B seat in the forward half!!

I've looked at seatguru...

What gets me is that the A330 seatmap on US' website shows no row 6 at all. Not a row 6 that's blocked off until 24 hours before departure (like front of Y on domestic aircraft), but no row 6 at all.

A few threads do mention row 6, but nothing too definitive. In fact there is mention of the center section emergency exit row 23 instead, as AB GH are blocked off as crew rest. But row 23 is unavailable at present. So not sure what to do..

Basically I want to know: Is there in fact a row six that "magically" appears? And does row 23 only become available at the 24 hour window?

While there's obviously a lot fewer US FT'ers around these days, I would suggest we need to build a seating FAQ sticky.

Row 6 magically appears at 24-hours in advance...I'm flying CLT-FRA this afternoon and 6 is on the seat map, though 7 was the first row in coach up until.

I prefer not sitting in Row 6 eastbound because the armrests don't raise, so if you can have an empty seat or two beside you, Row 7 or 8 would be better so you can stretch out.

Also, there is a window in Row 10, but it's pretty far back - in line with the headrest. So you CAN see out, but you have to strain your neck.

The forward seats do still have slightly more leg room than the rear seats (forget where the pitch change happens), but I confirmed this a few months ago as I had to move to the back of the plane for take-off for weight and balance, then moved back to my normal Row 7 or 8 or 9 or something - definitely an extra inch or two up there.

Wow, really? It's potentially 32 inches, perhaps a bit more? I'll stick to my 9B and hope 9A stays empty then. Though 7 CDEF are all empty right now. That inch can make all the difference in the world for anyone near or over 6 ft / 182cm. Funny how some airlines think in reverse - one less inch won't matter.

Except that it's the opposite - the pitch in the forward part of coach didn't increase (still generally 31") but the pitch is the rear of coach was decreased to squeeze in the extra seats.

The good seats in Row 23 are never opened up. I have taken three trips over the water on the A330 since November. The crew gets more space for their breaks than the elites do for their paid flights.
