I have booked a flight for tomorrow but due to family emergency I would like to leave as early as possible. Does Westjet allow traveler just shows up at the airport waiting for the next available standby flight? I would be ok to pay a small fee.
Thank you.

I believe they do.
You may want to phone them just to confirm availability and what the charge is to get on an earlier flight. I think it used to be ~$40.

Yes! Early Show fee @ $40 plus tax - $42. Can be requested at 'check-in' counter, but not usually 'baggage drop'. Super high priority code above all WS employees, family and friends.

You're actually priority
2a
which is for Early Show Guests, Through Employees and their designates
a through employee is such as if your flight was Flight 392 Calgary to Toronto to Halifax
and if you got on in Toronto to Halifax but employee A got on in calgary, they have the same priority as you as theyre going to halifax too.
It all comes down at that point to what time they checked in versus what time you checked in, whoever checked in first gets the seat.
the next priority is 2B which are employees and such so you have a little more priority. but youre not above all employees as DEADHEADING crew have priority 1A
