Etihad Airways Etihad Guest - Etihad family membership?
My son has built up silver membership in etihads FF programme. The company operates a family programme. Does anyone know if he is named as the head of the family for the FF programme, do the other members keep their miles as well as him also accruing miles for their flights.
This might seem like an obvious question but I am new to flyertalk.
Many thanks for help

All Etihad Guest members who participate in a 'Family Membership' nevertheless all retain their own membership accounts and their own Tier level. It's only Etihad Guest miles which are transferred to the account of the Family Head - not Tier Miles.
The Family Head is not determined by which family member is the highest tier, but is determined by whoever requested to be the Family Head in the first place.
Hope this helps!
Cheers.:)

If you flew 25,000 miles in one year, then you would become a silver member, since youkeep your Tier miles.
However, you will not have any miles for upgrades, redemption's or purchases if your a family member and your son is the head of that family.

THANKS. Let's say there are 4 members as part of this program. Member 1 (husband) earns 36,000 tier miles, member 2 (wife): 10,000 tier miles, members 3 & 4 (son): 0 tier miles each. So, really member 1 is silver, but if they are in the same account can't members 2, 3, and 4 also avail of silver priviliges (lounge in particular) if they are traveling solo. What happens if all travel together? All will be entitled to lounge access, correct????

Only member 1 can use silver member privileges.

The easiest way to think about this is as follows:
Tier miles are collected by the people who FLY - and stay with them. This is what makes a member able to climb through the tiers (Silver/Gold) and have access to the extra benefits. This is irrerspective of any Family Memberships. With Family Membership the only thing which is different is that all of the Guest Miles earned by all of the family members (i.e. the miles you can spend on rewards) go into one account - that of the Family Head.
