Just wanted to share my very postive experience with NZ- hopefully I will find the time write a tripreport during Easter. Have flown NZ around a dozen times - this was the first in front.
Flew NZ38 LHR-HKG this past Thursday (April 2nd) in C. This was my first NZ C experience - and I have to say that this is the best C class experience I have had so far - by far. Except for on seat - the cabin was full. Comparing this to the other IC C products I have tried (SK, LH, BA (old), UA, CO, CX (old), TG, SQ (old)) is no comparison - NZ wins hands down. ^
I loved the cabin lay out, the use of mood lighting. As my wife noted: "This is so far from a conventional aircraft seating that you do not feel you are in a plane". ^ I realise that others (e.g. VA, SA, CX) have this layout as well, but I really like this set-up.
The chair - and the bed. Even though I am 198 I slept perfectly well. ^ When I booked I preselcted row 1 for myself and the Mrs., but was hit by an aircraft change to the 777 and had seats 5A and 6A (by FT recommendation) - which was fine for a nightflight. Dined together using the ottoman - which has trouble doubling as a seat for the second person, as it is rather narrow. But all in all the seat is great.
The food - and the selection of wines, and their quality (except for the bubblies) was just down my alley. Also it was served and presented well.
The IFE seemed great - although I did not use it a whole lot on this trip.
The service - personalised and attentive. Only minus - and this was the biggest minus on this trip - was it took 90 minuttes =1½ hours after takeoff before anything was served anywhere in the C cabin. In my book unacceptable - but that was the only glitch.
All in all - a very nice experience, you almost wanted to keep going to AKL. I only wish that NZ had more routes in my backyard. ;)
Editted to add: I forgot the lounge experience at LHR. Very attentive NZ staff, that sorted boardingpasses (the ones issued by SK had to be reissued to NZ ones for some reason) and made personalised gate call, etc. The lounge itself leaves a lot to be desired. The decor seemed very worn, dull and dark - quite surprising for such a new lounge. Food selection was decent, wine and beer selection was not up to the NZ standards.
