Also, this deal is well documented here, no worries the deal is real. http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/finance/915191/ Ritz Apr 7, 09, 7:59 pm I'm fairly certain americanexpress.com is a safe domain........ I am too - but this link's address is actually: https://www99.americanexpress.com/myca/logon/us/en/en_US/logon/LogLogon.jsp?DestPage=https%3A%2F%2Fwww99.american express.com%2Fmyca%2Fcrdmgmt%2Fus%2Faction%3Freque st_type%3Dauthreg_FCREnrollment%26ccd%3D2X7%26bcd% 3D0001%26cardtype%3DGEN ...not americanexpress.com and while the deal itself is legit, I was just a bit worried about this particular link. gamer83 Apr 7, 09, 8:20 pm I am too - but this link's address is actually: https://www99.americanexpress.com/myca/logon/us/en/en_US/logon/LogLogon.jsp?DestPage=https%3A%2F%2Fwww99.american express.com%2Fmyca%2Fcrdmgmt%2Fus%2Faction%3Freque st_type%3Dauthreg_FCREnrollment%26ccd%3D2X7%26bcd% 3D0001%26cardtype%3DGEN ...not americanexpress.com and while the deal itself is legit, I was just a bit worried about this particular link. The link is www.americanexpress.com/creditreport , that link then redirects you to the actual offer site. It is an internal americanexpress.com redirect link, so it's safe. All you have to do to verify this is cut paste the address "www.americanexpress.com/creditreport" into your browser directly if you don't believe me. Also the domain to the link you posted is still americanexpress.com. The www999 is a subdomain of americanexpress.com. The basic domain of americanexpress.com is what counts. sbm12 Apr 7, 09, 9:41 pm The link is legit. The www99 prefix is just one of the many server farms that AmEx operates for their CC business. I didn't have to enter my username; it remembers it from previous sessions. The T&C includes this bit: FCRA DISCLOSURES The Federal Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) allows you to obtain all of the information in your consumer credit file disclosure from any consumer credit reporting company for a reasonable charge. The FCRA also states that you are entitled to receive a disclosure directly from the consumer credit reporting company free of charge under the following circumstances: - You have been denied credit, insurance or employment in the past 60 days as a result of your report - You certify in writing that you are unemployed and intend to apply for employment in the 60-day period beginning on the day you make the certification - You are a recipient of public welfare assistance - You have reason to believe that your file at the credit reporting company contains inaccurate information due to fraud That makes it sound like this is maybe supposed to be a limited thing. Interesting. friedice Apr 8, 09, 1:46 pm Hmm.. what a weird coincidence. The day after I pull my report using this promo, I get a call from AMEX, and get told that based on their credit review 2 of my AMEX accounts will have their credit lines decreased from a louzy $3000 to an even louzier $1000 limit. I wonder if pulling my credit had anything to do with it. mikensf74 Apr 8, 09, 1:54 pm age old question: does this cause a hard pull of credit? If one seeks their credit score, AMEX can probably do that will their monthly soft pulls, but this linkie (thanks btw) indicates a credit report and score will be presented. Can we assume this is an inquiry that will show on credit report then? DallasBill Apr 8, 09, 2:16 pm No... getting you own CR will not result in a subsequent "hard pull" on said CR. gamer83 Apr 8, 09, 2:17 pm age old question: does this cause a hard pull of credit? Pulling your own credit report only results in a soft pull. mikensf74 Apr 8, 09, 2:19 pm thanks ger3sf Apr 8, 09, 2:47 pm About a week after my 2 Optima credit lines were reduced to $1,000 each, I saw this free credit report offer on the Amex wesbsite. The report said my credit category is "excellent" with a 784 score. Apparently, this is not good enough for Amex.:( ttjoseph Apr 11, 09, 8:04 am This gave me my "PLUS" score. Is this meant to be interpreted in roughly the same way as the FICO score? mkpkmp Apr 16, 09, 10:23 am This gave me my "PLUS" score. Is this meant to be interpreted in roughly the same way as the FICO score? "roughly" is the operative word. Max FICO is 850 vs. a max of 830 in Plus score. But I guess they are correlated. LAXRuss Apr 17, 09, 4:46 am This offer is legit. I have been using the AMEX service for about the last three years. Their fee at about $11.99 a month is the cheapest I have found for a service which allows you to pull your credit report from all THREE credit bureaus for an unlimited amount of times. While they don't provide FICO scores, their similar PLUS score is provided along with each credit report which allows you to see the slight difference in score based on each report. I think Experian provides the service that AMEX is offering and they have an 800 number you can call for assistance if credit fraud or unauthorized credit pulls show up on your account. I pull my reports a few times a month-- they are soft pulls and thus do not show up on the list of credit inquiries. When you register for the service, your log-in is the same as logging into the AMEX website. For added security, they ask for your SSN each time you request a new report. Basically, when you sign up for the service, they allow you to pull one free report and allow you to cancel within 30 days at no charge. After the first 30 days, they start charging the monthly fees and then once you are a paying customer, you can begin pulling unlimited numbers of reports. Other services such as USAA provide a cheaper service (I think USAA is about $5.99 monthly) but it only provides unlimited reports from Experian. I have also tried services such as Equifax's, but I think AMEX is the cheapest service if you want unlimited queries of all three major credit bureaus. (If anyone knows of another service that provides unlimited queries of all three credit companies at a lower price, I would be interested in hearing about it.)
