Sixt - Renting a convertible from Sixt in Germany? Or another agency...

For doing a convertible rental with Sixt in Germany, I noticed that a credit card needs to be given with the reservation. If I'm doing the "pay on arrival" rate, will there still be a 50EU cancellation fee (that is given with the prepaid rate) if I cancel?
This is a one-way dropoff; what other car agencies are good for a convertible besides Sixt and Hertz? Europcar doesn't offer a convertible.

If renting on a SIXT-flexible rate there is no cancelation fee at all, even without cancelling and not showing up, you wonīt be charged.
No one-way fee within Germany as well.
The credit card is just to guarantee your reservation.
Iīm just renting with SIXT, so I canīt tell you about other options.
Have fun with your convertable :)

I finally rented my convertible from Sixt - very exciting! No idea why it took me a month to get this done, I'm probably paying another $50 than if I booked last month.
I'm renting from Sixt Dortmund Airport.
Anyway will my California DL be enough or does Sixt require an international driver's license? I only rented from Hertz FRA in the past where my CDL was fine. I've never rented with Sixt. In fact I'm really only renting from Sixt this time because they have the convertibles (Hertz was sold out).
Danke!

am looking at a 1 Series convertible as well in Munich, but seems like all convertibles are manuals?

I didn't notice *any* automatic convertibles. Not sure if phoning would help? MY wife can't drive manual but is happy for me to do the driving. I'm happy either way. Note that automatic usually costs more $ than manual.
Just remembered - in 2006 we rented a Smartcar semi-convertible in Florence with Budget/Dollar (can't recall which) and it was a combo manual/automatic. BAsically we flicked a switch to determine if it was auto or manual! Whacky. It was a semi-convertible in that the metal top slid back pretty far to give a convertible feel, even though it was NOT a convertible. This could be a decent alternative, but I have no idea of the Smartcar model or anything like that.

Europcar does offer convertible! I rented a EOS "2009 edition" last time in FRA and return at Dusseldorf Hauptbahnhof. It gave only 400km free mileage but not too bad for my journey. I'm Sixt gold but last time when i tried to book a 1-series from the website in late-march, it suddenly showed only 200km free mileage during booking (instead of 500). So do all other normal cars (500km per day instead of unlimited mileage). After a few days I found that it was back to normal but I've already made a non-refundable rate from Europcar. Shame.

I've got the same car booked in 2 weeks time... can't wait! :)

Maybe you can call the station for confirmation or guarantee, but I assume all convertibles are automatic. I had a 120i convertible which was auto (despite not being booked), all other convertibles they had at the time (320i's) were also auto's.

I would also recommend calling up the station as I myself had convertibles with manual transmission (that I prefer). And make sure you don't get a Ford Focus convertible.

or a Smart convertible :-)
or a Smart convertible :-)
Actually, a Smart Convertible can be fun as soon as you have figured out how to overrun the automatic transmission and shift at the right moment :D - and it does not feel as underpowered as the Ford Focus.

i ended up renting a 1 Series Auto Coupe from Sixt...didnt want to risk a manual from the apparent jam reports in Munich centre but discovered it isnt true.
arrived at the central munich train station...
the lady had the car ready for me...and it was an 'upgrade' to a 1 Series Convertible Auto...118i...not that i'm complaining...(had a diesel VW Passat Estate in UK driving from London to St Andrews and back down to Edinburgh and used just slightly more than half a tank)

Hey, common. It always was a little more expensive driving BMW than VW.
Hope that at least weather was ok, so you could enjoy a topless ride :-)
