I have gone through the search function but am unable to locate any recent posts concerning this question;

In May I am arriving from NAN to AKL on Air New Zealand at 2240hrs and hoping to connect to SQ to SIN, departing at 2350hrs. Flights will be on separate tickets (NAN/AKL is an award).

Am I pushing my luck? I would like to avoid spending the night in AKL if possible.

Any advice is appreciated.

Yes, you are pushing your luck.

Are you flying C or J?

AKL is quite busy at that time with all the Aussie arrivals.

Y unfortunately.

I would not risk this connection unless the SQ flight was booked in a flexible booking class or all on one ticket.

If NZ at NAN could/would not check you and your baggage in for the SQ flight you would definitely miss the connection. If they did manage to get you checked in, the SQ flight would already be boarding as you get off the NAN flight - so any delay however minor would mess up your plans.

I doubt NZ will check you through.

...and if you do miss yr SQ flight, you are on your own given that you are traveling on 2 separate tickets (ie NZ has no responsibility for your SQ connection).

I think you need to amend your flights to allow more time....

Is there a day flight on SQ the next day, rather than waiting until the evening flight?

Thanks for the advice.

Unfortunately I cannot change the date I am leaving NAN and Air New Zealand only have the late flight that day.

I will make plans to stay overnight in AKL and take the SQ midday flight rather than risk missing the connection.

Cheers

Concur with the advice above. Even with carry-on only (thus can bypass immigration) it is a very risky connection and totally reliant on SQ checking you in at the gate when they may have already closed the flight. With checked bags there is zero chance of making the connection.
