Is something happening in LV around the 13th May - have booked for three nights at good rate but prices seem to have suddenly shot up at Bellagio

05/13 - 05/16 - CUDL/Prime Alliance Auto Lending Symposium
Bellagio - 600 Attendees Expected

05/14 - 05/16 - HD 2009 Expo & Conference - Hospitality Design
Sands Expo & Convention Center - 20,000 Attendees Expected

The convention actually at the bellagio has so few attendees it probably has a negligible impact on room prices. The 20,000-person convention *might* have an impact.

A portion of the Bellagio rooms are probably blocked for their convention and other conventions thus driving up the prices for the other rooms. Keep checking and when the rooms don't fill the rates will come down.

Thanks for all your replies - we brits need advice on these things! If Bellagio is busy does that mean I have to fight to get a decent room.

If your rooms are booked, they won't change the price. Are you committed to Bellagio?

No, you'll get whatever room you booked. Like others said, those two conventions probably won't have a noticeable impact on your experience. If the hotel is busy, that will just lower the chances of a "you look like a nice person, here's a free upgrade" event. But most hotels are using upgrades to drive revenues now anyways.

And thebat is right, once you've booked your room, the rate won't rise for you.

20,000 people is small potatoes.

Everywhere packed is when Comdex was in town--200,000 people. It went bankrupt but we still get 100,000+ conventions and the city handles them fine. Note, also, that more than 10,000 rooms have been built since the city flooded out with Comdex.

With 20,000 in town just stay away from the convention center and it's a non-issue.
