Air New Zealand Air Points - Space + seating on Domestic NZ flights

Hi all
I am booked AKL-WLg on NZ427 on Wednesday. This is my Air NZ flight. I have BMI Diamond Gold status.
I went on today to choose a seat and am a little confused by the seat maps. The furthest forward aisle seat I could find was row 20 . It seems that NZ do not seel whY+ or J on this flight but half the forward cabin is showing as unavailable and is described in the on line seat slection whatsit as "Space +". I can not find a reference to that on the NZ website nor can I search for it on here as "Space +" does not appear to be a valid search term.
Is this seating premium seating and available for a price or status or some other reason?
Thanks for any assistance in this.
Simon
EDIT
I just checked EF and it shows them only having Y on the fligth and the seat map shows P seats indicating those are premium seats. I am wonderin gif teh lack of my BMI number being in teh booking is important...

Yes, it's reserved for NZ and Star status passengers (and certain others).
All you need to do is call NZ on the tollfree number (USA, UK, or wherever you are) and get the BMI number added in, and then the callcentre will be able to assign you a seat in the SpacePlus section.

All domestic flights are all economy. Space+ has a few extra pitches of legroom (even more than economy for longhaul!) and is available for *G, koru club and full fare pax. As *G you should have access (but of course only if the system knows your status). Call Air NZ to pick a forward seat.

Thanks to both :)
So that status match to *G was worth the call after all :)

Yes and you know how much I enjoy whY and the lengths I have gone to to avoid it ;)

I'm sure you have done enough 40 minute domestic flights which you felt like a sardine
CHC-AKL comes to mind...

Yeah i agree it does make a difference especially when your knees are pushing against the seats infront in the regular seating.

Well it's more otherwise you have to walk a few more metres unnecessarily

OT: I don't think NZ are as strict as they should be about allocating Space+ at the airport. Everytime I have flown on the 737's since they introduced it I have been moved to a Space+ seat after check-in just from asking the check-in agents. Good for me, but I really do think they should have told the airport staff to only put non-elite pax in Space+ if needed.

Just to piggyback on this thread...
I've got a couple of flights on NZ on the 320 this summer - from AKL-NAN and return...
As a *G (UA 1K), do I have access to the Space+ section (assuming there is one - Seatguru only shows 1 configuration for the NZ A320's) for free?
I see the domestic trips in Space+ are free, but I'm curious about the International trips to 'holiday' destinations :)
Thanks in advance!

Yes space plus is Free on AKL-NAN-AKL since you are StarGold

By using this link you should be able to select your seats provided you booked with NZ and have a NZ PNR. NB: NZ doesnt support Check My Trip and other sites as they have a in house version.

Cheers!
It seemed that Space+ wasn't mentioned so much, so I figured it was worth asking :)
Now, I just have to call up UA to get the various PNRs for my RTW for the NZ, LH, SQ, TG and AC portions of the trip!
Thanks again!

You really don't need to call for this. On the frontpage of the NZ site simply put in a fake PNR and last name. It will, of course, not find your itinerary and ask for you input the flight details manually. At that point you can select your seat and email your selection to yourself (and the NZ PNR information is included)

If you have a International NZ Award J ticket with Y domestic leg (as NZ does not have business in domestic flights), do you get to have Space+ for domestic leg, even though I am *Nothing and not Koru club member?
On the side question, do you get to go to Koru domestic lounge for the Y leg as well?

in my experience yes you will probably get + seat and assuming you do it at time of check in for fisrt flight and wensure you are in first 9 rows and bobs your uncle, as to koru domestic , assuming u mean akld , front up with yr J ticket , makes no odds its award really and depending on mood of mine host they will probably let you in , they can be a bit picky but usually shld be ok. Connecting to/from Business Class, passengers are entitled to Koru Club access irrespective of status.
