I heard a rumor that F9 is getting rid of the animal tails. the person also told me that they saw a new F9 plane without an animal on the tail.

i could have sworn i recently read an article talking about F9's newest animal addition.

I haven't heard of F9 getting rid of the animal tails. They are Frontier in many ways.

Not to say your friend saw planes without an animal on them. There was a menagerie in PIT for a while with the planes that Republic used to fly for Frontier and any aircraft that have been sold in the past few months had their animal removed in Denver (its just a decal) before being ferried to the paintshop.

No. This person likely saw this: Frontier just took delivery of a leased A320 that is a former LTU bird. It was delivered to Denver for maintenance and conformity. It will be sent to Amarillo for paint, then Orlando for Live TV. The animal decal will be placed on either in Amarillo or back in Denver at F9 maintenance.

Also sometimes F9 maintenance will replace a tail decal and every now and then a animal-less plane makes it outside.

Finally F9 has returned several A319's (with a A318 leaving soon) and when F9 gives up possession, the decal is taking off - leaving a blank tail with the FRONTIER remaining on the fuselage.
